Metro Richmond Zoo Metro Richmond Zoo news

Seriously. Where on earth are they all going to go? I mean, the obvious answer is to small private zoos being as Richmond isn't AZA.

There's been a few exchanges between ZAA and AZA facilities with cheetahs, to help the gene pool, but not many. ZAA also seems to be operating their cheetah program independently, with Richmond and Tanganyika cranking out way too many cubs. The USA is running out of AZA zoos that could take cheetahs (theming, space, and money being big factors). There's already been some going to shady places with bad reputations, it's only going to continue :( And you know what those places love - cubs!

On August 31st, the zoo announced that a (0.0.1) Indian peafowl was hatched and, after its mother passed away, it was hand-raised by keepers, then crossed paths with the facility's pair of rheas which "adopted" them.
