Chester Zoo If you could, how would you change Chester Zoo!

First two would potentially work but the second one I highly disagree with I don't think that would be a good mix at all!
I don't think there would be any merit in attempting any of these mixes - all of them are either geographically inaccurate or practically incompatible (or both).
An idea I had. Turning the area near the old entrance into a Himilayan themed area. Link the old Serval and Cassowary enclosures and maybe the old Anteater and round enclosure into a Snow Leopard exhibit. Also destroy the nissen hut and convert the bush dog enclosure for musk deer. The site of the nissen hut could give indoor viewing. Alternativley the old anteater and round enclosure could be used for Tahr possibly.
The Bornean and Lar were mixed, the Sumatran were separate from the other two species.
Wasn't it the other way round?

yes initially and then the female lar gibbon was mixed with the bornean orangs and the male and male offsprings with the Sumatran orangs

I would now drop all initiatives not started and look at the perimeter fence. In light of break-ins at the French zoo earlier this year when a Rhino was slaughtered and the after hours trepass that has resulted in injury to a Zebra and the general concern for potential poaching of zoo stock world wide the perimeter is far to easy to broachand needs to be improved.

Apologies for bringing this thread back but if I could change chester I would
Bring the chinese aviaries and the old anteater/ kangaroo, the round enclosure and the old cassowary enclosure back onshow because if I remember correctly wasn't lynx planned to go in the old cassowary enclosure
Use the old ape house as a offshow holding area for a new species of primate
Add an Asian ungulate to the old banteng/bongo enclosure to fit in with the surrounding area
Bring back the servals
Bring back the scimitar horned oryx
Bring in a new breeding group of cheetahs as the 2 boys are now elderly

With grasslands about to start pretty soon, I believe the hunting dogs may be moved to the cheetah exhibit. There’s only one male cheetah now.
I am sure Chester will look at bringing in new Jaguars and Cheetahs for breeding in the future.
I'd like to see some parrots again.
The on show aviaries were demolished to facilitate ROTRA..
I get that the current off show Parrot breeding centre is probably better for the species, but I miss them, and information updates put outside the centre could at least inform visitors of what there is now held and breeding success?

I also miss the parrots.

3 Mitchell's Lorikeet
3 Mount Apo Lorikeet
1 Purple-naped Lory
7 Derbyan Parakeets
6 Blue-crowned Hanging Parrot
2 Buffon's Macaw
I do not think any of the above are in the Rare Parrot Breeding Centre.
The Lorikeets and Derbyan Parakeets are offshow in the aviaries behind the blesbok.
The Purple-naped Lorys are in Islands.
The Hanging Parrots are in RoTRA and Monsoon Forest.
The Buffon's Macaws are at the exit from the Aye-Aye exhibit.

Red-vented Cockatoo.
Lesser Sulphur-crested Cockatoo
Hyacinth Macaw
Blue-throated Macaw
Lilacine Amazon Parrot (with on show aviary)

However that list seems a lot shorter than the extensive collection previously held. (If my memory can be relied on)
I recall Palm Cockatoo and many species of Macaw, Amazon etc.

On my visit in December 2021, the Tropical Realm, Monsoon Forest, and all of the walkthrough aviaries were sadly closed due to avian flu. As such, I may not have seen everything that is usually on-display, but I only saw the following:
Blue-crowned Hanging Parrot (Loriculus galgulus) in RotRA
Ecuadorian Amazon Parrot (Amazona lilacina) in the Rare Parrot Breeding Centre.
They shared their enclosure with Elegant-crested Tinamou
Blue-throated Macaw (Ara glaucogularis) and
Great Green Macaw (Ara ambiguus) in the aviaries by the chimpanzees.
The former shared with Elegant-crested Tinamou and the latter with Red-billed Curassow.

It would be cool if they put bearded pigs in the warty pig enclosure
I mentioned this before but I would swap the Chimps and bornean orangutans over. I just think that the Chimps would benefit do much more from the larger indoor areas and multiple different areas in the enclosure.
I would also bring sea lions back. These would go into the penguin enclosure. Perhaps the penguins could live with the flamingos.
Deffo bring in gorilla's and perhaps both common and pygmy hippos.
I woukd move the Indian rhino's to a new enclosure next to the lions and then demolish the path and bridge in between the Elephants and rhino's and extend the elephant enclosure into the former rhino paddock

This was looked at, although with the rhinos sharing the exhibit with the elephants, Won't happen now, the latest plans are tp extend the elephant area to the north. Apparently they will not be able to access the electric cables.
