silvery cheeked hornbill diet help

My person diet for African hornbills consists of:

50% dry pellets (either mazuri softbill, versele-laga nutribird H16, or wisbroek softbill diet large)
25% vegetables (sweet potato, peas, carrots, leafy greens, etc)
15% fruit (apples, blueberries, melon, banana, papaya, etc)
10% protein (super worms, crickets, dubia roaches, mice, quail chicks, or even dog food)

I would only offer protein 3x a week, with the other 4 days compensating with 25% fruit instead, unless its for a breeding pair rearing chicks, in which case they would receive protein every day for the duration of the breeding cycle. I worked with a very successful breeding pair of wrinkled hornbills that would consume COPIOUS amounts of crickets while they were nesting/rearing chicks, but it still only came to around 5% of their diet by weight. The large asians are more predatory, but the africans have a more diverse diet overall, as they tend to include a lot of insects in their diet year round.

Many of the AZA bird TAGs, including Coraciiformes TAG, have facebook pages that are generally run by folks on their steering committees, so very knowledgeable about those taxa. You could shoot them an FB message and perhaps either they will answer you directly, or maybe post your question. You might get feedback there that you find helpful as well
