Paignton Zoo Paignton Zoo 2022

Off topic for Paignton but do you happen to know how many Diana monkeys are currently at Twycross and their approximate ages?
The male youngsters in the Twycross group were born in 2016, 2018, 2019(this one died Jan 2020) and 2020. The two females were already 18/19 years old when they arrived at Twycross from Newquay. The adult male was born at Paignton and is much younger than the females but I can't remember his y.o.b.

Manu was born at PZ in 2007.

Visited this morning. I love Paignton in summer when it’s all overgrown. The new paths are looking good. I’m really disappointed that the only birds (nice as they are) in the main Tropical House are Vietnamese Pheasnt. The aviary at the far end has been removed and with it the facility to hold more species. Such a shame and a massive further reduction in the once brilliant & extensive bird collection.

From my understanding, it is no longer safe to house birds in the tropical house, hence their removal. It is a shame for visitors (myself included), but the best course of action for animal welfare.

Do you know the reason its not safe?

If you consider the unfortunate history the house has with storms, I'm sure you can make a guess :p
PZ have been mightily unlucky, but, I don’t understand why a storm proof solution, as well as adding mesh to the inside of the roof, cannot be found? There are two to three major vivariums inside unfinished, though the planting is brilliant. It lacks atmosphere without the birds. Very sad!

I've been here at the zoo helping today - lots of progress and nearly done!
Great work & thanks for your efforts. Maybe you ask the BITE leaders to do a guesstimate costing/quote to install a high level frame/brachiating rope structure on the large Orang island and draw up a proposal for the trustees perusal?

Looks great. Must be very cool to look and think you contributed to something that will be fun for the animals and visitors!

Closed again Tuesday. This is terrible news for the zoo, bank holiday Monday particularly.
…., would be a great opportunity to move the new lions from Newquay, move Giraffe over and do other work too…., hoping of course that Paigntons birds (what’s left of the collection) are all safe and their keepers are ok!
