When is The Sanctuary set to open?

The Sanctuary is still in the early stages of construction, so I think it will be at least another year, possibly even two years before it will open.

Not big news, but an interesting fact for those who follow the smaller species at the park:
The karsten's girdled lizards (Zonosaurus karsteni) that have been around for a few years are actually ornate girdled lizards (Zonosaurus ornatus). The differences lays in the lines on the back of the animal.

I've seen two people on Facebook saying that the last Bulwer's pheasant male now seems to have passed - if this is true, it's such a shame and really really sad :( Does anyone have more information?

I did notice when I visited on Tuesday June 28th that the Bulwer's pheasant aviary in the Oasis was empty and unsigned (as were two other aviaries in there). So at the very least the Bulwer's pheasant is now off show.

Just got the information that it's also reported on ZIMS, so it's pretty much official - the last male passed away recently :(

Sad, but there was never really a population to start from, so it had to happen some day.

Now let us hope something interesting will fill the empty aviaries in the Oasis soon.

Pairi Daiza has also received 1.2. sitatungas from the Nature Aid Center (Natuurhulpcentrum) in Opglabbeek (Oudsbergen, Limburg, Belgium) after a seizure. After a brief quarantine yesterday the 3 new sitatungas have started exploring their new home and finding their place among Pairi Daiza's existing herd of 8 sitatungas.

Fourteen Spix's macaws have arrived in the bird conservation center from ACTP, two chicks, adults and seven young birds. Those twelve are supposed to be transferred to Brazil for reintroduction later this year. Pairi Daiza now houses 29 Spix's macaws as part of the reintroduction effort.

Oooh I didn't know Pairi had a breeding group of markhor! Great news.
Are there plans for a proper markhor exhibit to be built or is that pen their definitive enclosure?

You never know with Pairi Daiza, but I don't really see them building anything new for them. I don't think the current pen is that inproper anyway.

If they built anything I wish they made it so you could properly see the markhors and blackbuck from the walkways without having to take that stinky, black smoke belching, overloaded coal train.
