Had a good visit today and a few things to note. No shows today included giant otters, binturong and armadillo. To me the sea lions seem to be an odd colour/pattern. They almost seem to be freckled in places. Perhaps this is normal but never seen it in sea lions like this before

The giraffes won't be on the large reserve for a while because one of them is lame. They were also split up today. The reticulated giraffes were together and the rothschild was alone.

The africa reserve seemed very sparce today. No ostrich and the oryx were behind the hoofstock stables

No sign of life at the giant otter enclosure and I also think that the park could benefit from a 4th polar bear enclosure at project polar 1.

Its a great place and I hope they keep expanding and as far as dinosaur exhibits go they have one of the best I have seen

Both times I've been in the past twelve months, neither of the ostriches have been out...

I hope we aren't going to lose another giraffe... :(

Sadly Humbug the ring-tailed lemur has died. She was there from the very beginning and was the mother of all the other ring-tails (except the male Tink), I think I read she has had 15 offspring. When I saw her a few weeks ago the ranger said they'd stopped her breeding because she had lost condition.

Been to the park today quite warm
Not many animals was out tin the new section but didn’t mind as I know most of them are usually elusive no tschuna today (tiger) but did see a keeper sat next to the dens
The male camel was out with the group two was separated anyone know why ???
Giraffes still not allowed into Africa due to a injury
Seemed to be less leweche than usual
Still not managed to so spot the crowned lemurs
The warty pigs had a giraffe toy land in there enclosure luckily the staff was already on to it
No painted dogs and the gate between the two areas was open has one group left ???
3 Mara babies
Overall an awesome day

Zoo week for me continues with a visit to YWP today - weather was mixed with some rain and odd bit of sun. Made it easier to get around to see everything without it being too hot. Not sure about anyone else but it’s a one loop takes all day place for me as it’s so large.

Place was completely rammed with people as I guess only to be expected on a BH with overflow car parks in use (ended up very near the entrance in a field). As it’s a huge site however it only felt crowded in cafe and toilet areas (and the wallaby walkthrough which I didn’t do as it was 5 people deep) and the odd exhibit (giraffe house and leopard) so not bad at all really. The toilets in particular failed to deal with it all, so I think today may be near to what capacity looks like in terms of visitor numbers. As I went through the ‘retail experience’ at the entrance I was slightly dreading being crammed in to the park like a sardine but the huge size soon spread people out.

Polar bears were the highlight again for me - last trip was late last year so haven’t seen the cubs since they have grown up and the boys separated to join the bachelor group. All the different areas had lots of bear activity.

I really like the way the park maximises viewing with no glass or wire - you can get such a good view of many of the animals from the raised points or as they are up on hills themselves- thoughtful design.

Geladas were playing and chasing all over their exhibit which was great to watch. Lions were all up and visible and had swapped around enclosures since I was last there. There was a maned wolf talk in the afternoon so got to see them too.

Was lovely to see the ex whipsnade sea lions once more. Still miss them and a treat to see them again in their lovely exhibit. On the freckly / speckled and slightly messy appearance some of them have a keeper advised it was due to moulting and they will be getting their coats back again around now.

Caught a brief sight of the baby giant otters inside their indoor accommodation - awesome looking. Such a rare thing to see. That end of the park seemed a lot less crowded and I heard lots of people speaking about not going as far as the polar bears so lots seemed to give up before that.

No show on the hyenas - not having much luck with those in the last couple of days! Tigers were all roaming around though as was the dik dik.

Interesting to see the binturong mixed in with the otters. They didn’t seem to take much notice of each other. I haven’t seen that mix of species before.

Huge Dino exhibit now takes up the whole right side after the entrance - wondered what was going in there when visited before. Does have the benefit of filtering loads of people off from the first set of exhibits on entry and exit and made it seem a lot less hectic.

Overall an excellent day out.

There used to be a mixed Binturong and otter enclosure at Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park. I think last time I visited however there were no longer any otters.

Longleat and Wingham, also.

Hamerton previously.

Paradise Wildlife Park in the future (along with sun bears...).

Colchester still do I think
Certainly looks like it from pictures in the gallery.

I have been to Colchester a few times and just cant remember this enclosure despite looking in the gallery and orienting myself with a map :)

It's very easy to miss, by the bridge over the back of the lemurs to the geladas.

Back in the day it was where the last of the Silvered Langurs lived. :)

I can't believe I didn't think to mention Colchester. I have to say, it isn't very memorable, and I have only started to see animals in it recently, when it has been brought to relevance by two Short Clawed Otter litters. For reference, it used to hold Cheetahs, and is part of Wilds of Asia near the Red Pandas and Anteaters.

I've heard on the grapevine that there is an Amur Leopard in quarantine. This could be one of two things. Drake or Freya might be unwell with an infection OR a breeding male or female has been brought into the park. I'm assuming logistically they can keep three cats separate as they have had cubs in the past.

I'll update as I learn more. It's about time YWP contributed to the EBPs.

That’s awesome also how long until we’d find out about them ???
