Mogo’s bulls are indeed her sire and half brothers.

The regional giraffe population will no doubt experience some significant changes soon given the giraffe IRA for New Zealand is now complete. The obvious initial imports for the region are a bull for Orana Willdife Park; and a cow for Auckland Zoo. I’ve speculated their apparent decision to delay breeding from their youngest cow to be a consequence of anticipating this import.

Irregardless of when Australia’s giraffe IRA is finalised, they could potentially import via New Zealand given giraffe imports from New Zealand are permitted (as long as the giraffe has lived on New Zealand soil for a defined period - I’m assuming 12 months as per the previous Bovid requirements).

Aside from the imports I’m predicting for Orana and Auckland (Orana are without a breeding bull; and Auckland Zoo have the resources to import), Hamilton will be interesting to watch given they have three elderly bulls and will soon be at a crossroads where they could switch to holding a breeding herd.

In any case, Hamilton Zoo are the best equipped of New Zealand’s four main zoos to act as holding station for imports from outside the region, which could then be transferred to Australia if it was determined that was the best way to serve the regional population. Ideally, Australia will have it’s own giraffe IRA completed in the near future.
 
0.0.2 calves have been born at Taronga Western Plains Zoo to 0.1 Asmara and 0.1 Nyah. Asmara's calf was born on 4th October and Nyah's calf was born a day later. This gives the zoo four calves so far this year. They join 1.0 Wayo born to 0.1 Mvita and 0.1 Matata born to 0.1 Ntombi - reported in the news thread and I confirmed via email regarding which female had what calf as Mvita's name appeared twice for two of the births.
 
1.0 Akiki at Perth Zoo will be soon be moving to a zoo on the east coast - specifically Sydney Zoo which was confirmed by the zoo in the comment section of their post. When he arrives this will provide Sydney with their first male joining their two females Eyelean (born in 2018 at Monarto) and Nzuri (born in 2019 at Canberra) - reported on social media.

That’s unfortunate news.

With Orana Wildlife Park’s herd now reduced to four females, they’ll be looking to import a new bull giraffe - which I’m hoping will be from outside the region. New Zealand’s giraffe IRA is now completed, so there’s no reason they shouldn’t be looking further afield this time.
