Also, there isn´t that much smaller animals in Zlín collection...

Today, this new exhibit has been opened to visitors. Species on show - Cape rock hyrax, African spurred tortoise and crowned eagle.

The aviary nearby that was inhabited by crowned eagle pair last year should get new inhabitants - a family of Southern ground hornbills.

This autumns, the new exhibit will be enlarged by additional vulture aviaries.

And the zoo already published pics of that gaur little girl taken in their large grassy padock. It means it is visible to visitors now.
 
Jaguar Trek exhibit opens on 15th of May (this weekend). With a young pair of jaguars (black male Dany and spotted female Yuno from Rostock zoo) inhabiting area of around 2.000 m2. And with an aviary of Andean condors and scarlet macaws.
 
The zoo has announced some offspring of capuchinbirds. One chick has been hand-reared and one chick grew under mother in their Yukatan hall. First parent-reared chick in Europe ever (at least according to the press release).

During the summer, also 7 chicks of yellow-rumped cacique, 7 chicks of green oropendola and +20 chicks of red-rumped cacique have been reared. Keepers take these chicks after hatching from nests and hand-rear them to increase their survival odds.

That's realy great news for the very small captive population of the Capucin bird in Europe !
 
Hi,
Does anyone have any information on the zoo's lions? I'm looking at this article here about Zoo Basel's lion brothers -- was Kinbonge sent to Zoo Zlin? Has he fathered any cubs? I can't find any one of these brothers in my research after leaving Zoo Basel...

Zlin received a male lion from Basel in 2015, however his name is Abamboo (according to Zlin). No idea if he is identical with Kibonge and just renamed or he is from another litter in Basel.

Zlin used to keep a group of 1,2 lions - male Abamboo and two sisters from Lisbon (Lisa and Bona) since 2013. They never had any cubs. Bona died last year, Lisa died this year. Abamboo should be alive, however I am not sure he still lives in Zlin. The zoo planned to send him away but no idea if that happened. The current lion exhibit doesnt comply with newest state regulation for big cat exhibits. A new lion exhibit (0,5 hectares) should be built in Karibuni zoo area in a year or two.
