Chester Zoo Chester Zoo News 2022

The area closed off by Hornbills in Tropical Realm is because of a structural issue caused by something that needs replacing.

one of the pairs has been moved to where a pair of Tarictic Hornbill are, so visitors can see them. Just to the right of the passage to the aye-aye.

They’ve been fixing the structural problem for about 3/4 weeks now.
 
Does anyone know what lemur species are at Chester? I looked at their website but it doesn’t match with what other people say they’ve seen and I know that they don’t include all the animals on the website

Zootierliste is the best site to find all animal species currently kept at Chester, plus all their former species listed on there too.

It's a pretty impressive list of lemurs. Does anywhere have more lemur species than Chester Zoo in the UK?

No. The closest contenders are Cotswold (7 species), Jersey (6), Africa Alive (6), Banham (6), Wildheart Animal Sanctuary (6), Porfell WP (5) and Wild Place (5). All very impressive totals that can't quite reach Chester's 9! It is also one of the highest totals in Europe, although it does fall short of such places as Vincennes (10) and Plzen (13 :eek:).

It's so great to have a collection with such a multitude of species, it's really impressive.
 
Chester has never held mouse lemurs.

The last ever printed Z magazine arrived today. Snow leopards are arriving in 2024.

I didn't get to the Madagascar section during my last visit to Chester (I had to skip everything south of the Komodo dragons because I only had a limited time). So I know in advance before my next visit, are masks still needed to go in the area? I've recently been to other zoos with lemur walkthroughs where masks weren't required, it's probably up to individual zoos what they decide to do of course, but if Chester still do than I'd probably have to skip the area again because I can't wear a mask for long for medical reasons.
