Planet Zoo Planet Zoo!

I'm hoping it's a woodland theme, rather than nocturnal personally - I'd not be best pleased if a pack with such a broad scope gave three of its slots to small temperate woodland carnivores, possibly to the detriment of additional tropical, grassland and desert species.

Looks like the start of a good line-up to me, with the usual caveat that it's always very mammally. The hinted/all-but-confirmed animals are all good solid zoo species and three would be new families to the game. Agree that this has the feel of a woodland theme rather than the much-suggested nocturnal one at this stage. If so, my personal top pick for that theme would be Wild Boar. Building a wildpark with no Schwarzwild is weird. ;)

I don’t know… all 4 of those animals are nocturnal, too… And we don’t know if the Wombat is a Common or a Hairy-Nosed. It all depends on the last 4 animals. I think Frontier chose those 4 to be as ambiguous as possible, like how they chose 2 South American animals to tease for Wetlands.

Night, night, night, night… (weakly)

Yeah, either's still possible - as, indeed, is it being something else entirely. Just the way it feels to me.

To be honest, the theme isn't in itself particularly important once the speculation phase is over, especially on the assumption they are keeping with the alternating pattern and this is an animal pack, so there's no significant scenery.

so, basically people are saying we are going to get raccoon, red fox, common wombat, striped skunk, this could be a woodlands or nocturnal animal pack, maybe we will get a new deer(probably the white tailed one) and i expect to see fossa or crested porcupine in the game along with kiwi or pheasent, and a new exihibit animal that will probably be a gecko or a cobra.

The pack has been revealed as a Twilight Pack. It contains the raccoon, red fox, common wombat, striped skunk and Egyptian fruit bat.

Ni-ni-ni-ni-night! NIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!

Kinda sad that this isn’t an animal pack (like we were all expecting), but that doesn’t matter because we got BAAAAATS!!!

Agreed on all points. :D

And - whisper it - what works for bats here, would of course work for birds in future...

This was really the only way to introduce just one flying animal as an experiment - just one flying bird would be very strange, just one flying mammal - not so much. ;)

Probably the strangest pack we've had... but I'm here for it! I wonder if "giving" us the bats now is opening up the door for a purely bird based animal pack in the future, with the bats enabling them to sort out any of the flight related bugs...

@Maguari I've just seen your comment after posting mine, apologies for reiterating some of your points.

Without the bats I would say this was the worst pack yet, but the possibilities for the future push it up a couple places. It’s been said already but this opens the door for so many more species from Frontier and mod makers. My only worry is that flight will be limited like brachiation, but it makes more sense to me that they would model it off of the deep diving behaviour.

So, it's clear that Frontier is certainly eager to give flying animals a try and see how this works out. If it does, we could still potentially get our bird themed pack. It's not like the Walkthrough Exhibit feature would only be used for ONE animal throughout the game's lifespan, right?

I do think, however, if there was a bird themed pack, it would need to...
  1. Be an Animal pack, not just a standard pack (so with eight animals instead of just five).
  2. Have an even split of Habitat animals (say, the Shoebill and Secretary Bird for example) and Exhibit animals (take Rainbow Lorikeets as a possibility).

I’d curb my enthusiasm if I were you. When JWE 1 added the pteranodon, they did not add any new pterosaurs since them. I wouldn’t hold my breath for more flying animals anytime soon.
