Planet Zoo Planet Zoo!

I’d curb my enthusiasm if I were you. When JWE 1 added the pteranodon, they did not add any new pterosaurs since them. I wouldn’t hold my breath for more flying animals anytime soon.

Not exactly the best comparison because that was the very last DLC pack they did, so they didn't add any new ANYTHING since then. Come JWE2, they added quite a few pterosaurs.

The pack is not bad although I would also choose the Aye-Aye and Tasmanian Devil over the Raccoon and Red Fox. The Wombat is an excellent addition and the Bats too.

Fingers crossed that we do get some kind of Madagascar pack down the line for the Aye-Aye, Fossa and other Lemurs etc but not holding my hopes up.

Not an animal pack huh? Interesting... BATS!!! Definitely the highlight here! I won't reiterate what everyone else has already said regarding flight mechanics and the future but it is really exciting!

As for the rest, I have wanted raccoons for ages now and wombats too, skunks are not something I had thought of but it's a good addition. Pretty mixed on the red fox, I don't think we really needed a third fox but considering how iconic it is I will let it slide...

Really excited overall and can't wait to try all these out.

Agreed on all points. :D

And - whisper it - what works for bats here, would of course work for birds in future...

This was really the only way to introduce just one flying animal as an experiment - just one flying bird would be very strange, just one flying mammal - not so much. ;)

Just realised I committed my least favourite sin and only commented on what the pack isn't, not what it is!

In and of themselves, five very handy animals for zoo building. A bit weird as a set that they're all so physically small, but I'm very happy to see them all. And more historic European building pieces can only be good. :)

Whilst we may have three foxes, at least they're all unique. That's something at least.

Yeah, I can't complain. There's variety not just in physical appearance, but biome and region. The red fox serves niches that the other two species don't. Plus it's such an iconic species.

This isn't my favorite roster, but it's not the worst, I'm still gonna get it. I'm excited for the bats. The new larger exhibit type opens up potential for more animal variety in future DLC. And I'm really excited for the new decor and plants.

I've been working on a fairy tale themed zoo, and this pack is adding a lot of great new choices for that.

Looks like I forgot to do this, too.
I’m…. ok with this pack. I was expecting an animal pack, and so a standard 5 animals+scenery pack was a bit of a letdown. Admittedly, most of the animals I predicted were tropical/warm weather species, and it is the time of year where we get more temperate animals.
Raccoon ended up being the only animal I got right, so I’m happy with its inclusion. Seems like it’ll be a good “in-betweener” animal: something small too fill in gaps between larger exhibits.
Common Wombat is easily my favorite of the habitat animals this time around! I’ve wanted them ever since the Australia Pack, and I’m glad they’re here!
Red Fox is… alright? Not too big on this one, but this is the fox for a lot of people, so I’m not mad about it’s inclusion. Plus, I saw a wild Red Fox yesterday, so maybe it was an omen…?
I’m mixed on the Striped Skunk. On one hand, it’s an unexpected animal (even if Tim accidentally namedropped it in the stream), but I think it’s a little redundant with the Raccoon as a North American “in-betweener”. If I had to change this pack, either the skunk or the fox would go and be replaced with the Tasmanian Devil everyone was expecting.
Finally, BATS!!!! Easily the biggest surprise of this pack. Didn’t Frontier say that they wouldn’t be doing mammalian exhibit animals at one point? I’m glad they went against their word, though! We finally have some flying animals! Maybe that aviary pack will happen after all?
Overall, a decent pack. I don’t know if I’d call this one “strong” or “weak” overall. The habitat animals (save for the Wombat) are all kind of same-y, so this is probably the only time a pack has ever been carried by the exhibit animal.
Here are my rankings for the animals, best to worst.
  1. Egyptian Fruit Bat
  2. Common Wombat
  3. Raccoon
  4. Striped Skunk
  5. Red Fox

Not a bad selection for a pack I suppose, kinda disappointed that there's no Aye-Aye or Tasmanian Devil as they would fit in very nicely and would definitely rather have one of those over a Red Fox.

Yeah that's largely my feelings too. That said though I'm not sure it's got enough oomph for me to shell out on release. Wish they'd calm down on the themed building materials, not everything needs to be so heavily themed.
Overall, it's okay I guess. A lot of species I'd have rather seen make the cut, which I've noticed seems to be the average reaction. A lot of people disappointed by no Tassie, kiwi, porcupine, or Aye-aye. Bats seem to have been the redeeming factor for many (mostly on premise of rigging and hopeful promise of birds), but otherwise reception seems pretty lukewarm. A lot of small and overly common species aren't winning the community real well apparently.

Wow, ok. Not only did our predictions/wishes come true, but we got free-flying animals HOLY COW. Ok, so like with the wetlands DLC, I'll quickly state my opinions on the new animals, from least to most:
- Red fox. I dunno, I feel that the arctic and fennec did the job well enough. I mean, it'll buff any European collection, but still. I feel it's just been included because foxes are such a big internet phenomenon, but I feel that the dog family, if expanded, would benefit from more unique members (tanukis or bush dogs, for example)
- Striped skunk: this is where the winging stops. I actually really like this addition, even though I would have chosen either it or the next animal, but I guess getting both is fine enough. I just hope they can be put i enclosures together!
- Raccoon: As some of you may know, I've kinda looked forward to having raccons in the game, as they are very ubiquitous and significant animals. Super happy to see them.
- Common wombat: even though I was looking forward to the Tasmanian devil more, I'm at least happy they included the wombat, the second marsupial I most wanted to see added (tree kangaroo would be third). I'd love to see them dig around, and maybe even have them exhibited with koalas!
- Egyptian fruit bat: Yes!! YEEEEEES! (in an M. Bison fashion). Finally we have a flying animal, and one that I really, really like! I think the species choice is very good, as this is the most commonly exhibited bat species in captivity, and I can't wait to see what the future holds.

Which brings me to a different point; the walk-through exhibits. How big will they be (At least 4 squares, I hope)? Will they be able to hold more than bats (iguanas, for example)? And will every flying animal be treated this way? Granted, I think it's a great idea to incorporate small birds like lorikeets and mynahs, and even butterflies, but will larger birds, like macaws and raptors, just have standarised, self-decorating aviaries? I... Don't like this idea for them. And hopefully, my hunch will be right, and aviary building mechanics will be a lot more in-depth and customisable.
Also, no reptiles? I wanted geckos, darnit. And I am very disappointed to see no tazzies, aye-ayes, kiwis or especially porcupines. Fingers crossed for them to appear in a future DLC (but not before a flying birds pack though; I may be crazy, but I'm not that crazy! ;) )

probably, we will get flying birds as habitat animals so we can build large aviaries.
