Rarities by Zoo

@SwampDonkey a martial eagle was also on display at the beginning of the safari ride but may have been replaced by a shoebill
Ah ok, I rarely get to ride the safari bus, the line is always too long. The two times I have ridden it over the last couple of years only had patas monkey and shoebill in those enclosures. Although it is possible the shoebill are all over in their habitat now - I don't know. I rode the ride back in September, but they did not really do the whole ride. The entry aviary at the ride line had waddled cranes.

@Neil chace hopefully FPZ continues their breeding efforts. Incredibly they have had 6 calves (5 still surviving as far as I know) over the years

I believe right now they only have 1-2 females (I forget if the latest calf was shipped out once mature or not), so hopefully they can get a male for breeding again soon.

And the Tapir mom is 18 now, so it's unlikely she'll have any more calves (not that it's impossible, but the window of opportunity is quickly shrinking.) Furthermore, I doubt breeding her is an SSP priority since she isn't a genetically valuable individual, having already had so many surviving calves. Truly a testament to the great work ZNE has done with this species.
