Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens Los Angeles Zoo News 2022

The zoo announced today that Evelyn the 46 year old Western Lowland Gorilla had to be euthanized.
I just saw this on Twitter, she was always one of my favorite gorillas. Would give you an inquisitive look, an expression I never got tired of photographing or looking at. Rest In Peace my sweet ape friend :(

Hi all. I was at the zoo last month and noticed the devils weren’t there; does anybody know what happened to them?

They have both died, unfortunately. Tasmanian devils are extremely short-lived with an average lifespan of five or six years.
I see, thanks very much. Do you know when this was?
What’s the population looking like outside Australia, do they breed and is it sustainable?

One passed at the end of 2019 and the other at the start of 2020.

There are currently only four holders in the US (San Diego, Columbus, Toledo, ABQ Biopark) and five in Europe (Prague, Beauval, Duisburg, Copenhagen, Pairi Daiza). Singapore just recently acquired some as well and I've also heard of at least one other major zoo in the US that plans on obtaining them. These individuals do not breed and are imported from Australia where there is an abundance, so once these current animals pass they could be replaced if the current holders are still interested.
