Edinburgh Zoo Recent arrivals

Great news about the tapir, are the bongo 2 females from Belfast?
Bongo do you know where the young tapir from last year went, i think it may have been CERZA in France

I believe that the African plains exhibit may be unsuitable or part of it may be unsuitable for giraffe as it is considered too steep and therefore risky for giraffe, whereas rhino be it white or black are not in the masterplan as they are concentrating on Indian rhino for the moment.

i think adding rhino and giraafe will make it pretty much like most other african exhibits, i think they should stick to what they've got or perhaps add a few more antelope species

I would like to see impala, another gazelle species such as thompsons, warthog, ostrich and maybe even Cape buffalo.

Drill

To be honest, I don't like the drill enclosure as it is really small for them. Edinburgh Zoo said they are in there for temporarily but it has been nearly two years. Now 0.2 Drill will be added, it is worse for them in limited space, which it doesn't look good for the zoo!

gentle giant, from what i've gathered on this site, the drills will be moving to the former chimp/gorilla enclosure very soon.

Edinburgh Drills.

I think the former Gorilla/Ape enclosures are ideal for the Drill group.

I hope they don't have any problems with breeding when the new females(two sisters) from USA arrive.Apparently a dominant female may try to attack/kill babies of a subordinate female which is not her own kin/relative. This happened in at least one European group and its recommended zoos keep related females only to avoid this.

I never saw the Anteater out in the enclosure, it was always curled up in the far corner of the house, so you could only see it using the mirror in there.:( Is the zoo going to get a new Anteater?

The zoo blog says they will get a pair in, but only after the maned wolves have had their pups which are expected soon.

That's fantastic news, and about the Maned Wolf pups!:D Did they breed from the previous pair?

previous pair not bred for a few years, news is that its 4 maned wolf pups, in the bottom cubbing den offshow to visitors just now

4 bush dog pups also born!!! now starting to venture outside and taking the group up to 8 bush dogs in total

Tundra reindeer arrived from HWP and now residing at the top of the hill in the old vicuna/darwins rhea enclosure - 5 from HWP to join the 3 that have been at the zoo since before Christmas

Capybara have now left the collection and in their enclosure is the male & female Darwins Rhea

Am I missing something here? Or have the vicuna been moved around the Edinburgh Zoo lately? Where to (if so)???? The Darwin's rhea pair have surely been ... (why segregating the 2 species ....)????
