The monorail typically only stops for a moment at the elephants and maybe the tiger, if at all, but only for a moment. I think it depends more on the crowds than the driver, as on slow days when there have been no or few others in line the drivers have really taken their time and gone slowly past each animal. This is preferable for photography of course. Most of the time, when there's a large line of people to move through, the drivers need to speed through a bit more. As for being able to ride multiple times, you do need to exit but you're allowed to reenter and wait in line again.

As others have said, the baseline ticket for the zoo includes all exhibits, but you can buy a cheaper ticket which doesn't include those exhibits if you'd like.

That makes sense, but I've had the opposite experience :D It was a really busy day that first time I went, the line was near full, but then not busy at all on the recent trip.

Some updates from yesterday:

-Both Madagascar! and the Aquatic Bird House were inexplicably closed, not sure as to why. I did see two individuals seemingly wearing headlamps in the entry area of the ABH from the outside and area directly in front of the doors into Madagascar! seem to be being used as an unloading area to set up their holiday lights display. A rather poor decision imo, if that is the case, as on a rainy day like yesterday where I was one of very few on the grounds, I was looking forward to probably the best chance to spot the mouse lemurs.
-The second floor of World of Birds is also closed. It appears as though they're doing work on the ramps that connect the floors.
-The zoo appears to have moved the remaining tinamous off-exhibit, replacing them with motmot and Sun Conure which looks very out of place in that habitat of that enclosure. Bolivian Grey Titis have again moved in with the trumpeters. I find this move saddening, as there are precious few zoos left with tinamou in the US...
-Some Oriental Fire-Bellied Toads have moved into the tank labeled for Chinese Big-Headed Turtle in JungleWorld.
-One of the zoo's Silver Pheasants (unsure if one of the Berlioz's or the generic individuals, the sign simply read "Silver Pheasant") has replaced the Himalayan Monals in the small aviary near the sea lions in Astor Court.
-I can confirm that the Jeweled Chameleons are on-exhibit in World of Reptiles. The zoo has shifted the Taylor's Agamas and Carrot-Tailed Viper Geckos into the neighboring enclosure, which previously housed the Giant Horned Lizards. The horned lizards, as reported already, have moved into the southwest deserts display nearby. The chameleons are now in the former agama/gecko terrarium. It also appears as though one of the geckos which live wild in the building has gotten itself trapped in with the chameleons.

The gecko:

I think that was all, I hope to upload some shots of the chameleons later today or early in the new week. They are beautiful reptiles!

I visited today, and Madagascar has already reopened.

In the reptile house I saw the jeweled chameleons, and they were amazing to watch. I even saw one launch its tongue!

Construction is progressing on the new budgie walkthrough. The structure visually looks a lot like a greenhouse. It uses a white opaque material rather than mesh used in budgie walkthroughs at some other zoos. There was signage with a rendering of the walkthrough, so I posted a picture in the gallery.

I also noticed a couple minor exhibit closures: the gaboon viper / rhinoceros viper exhibit in the reptile house was under maintenance, and the fish exhibit in the mangrove part of Jungle World (previously held archerfish and mudskippers along with some other species) was drained and closed for now as well.

That's unfortunate about Madagascar! then for me, must have been the wrong day to visit.

Thanks for the pic of the aviary progress, I looked at the construction from both the Mouse House and giraffe side but did not actually walk past it, so didn't see the rendering.

And thanks for mentioning the WOR habitat renovations, I completely forgot about those! For further info., the signs for the two mentioned Bitis species have been moved from the larger habitat towards the end of that row next to the Mangshan Viper, to one of the narrower spaces further up the row. Both the new species and the original space are both under renovation at this time.

I am planning to go to the Bronx Zoo later this month. I want to especially see the Dholes, because I don't think they had them last time. Do you know if they will be out in colder weather?

They were out and active today. Always seem to be active these days at least early in the day. Temperature was 32 degree so you should be okay.
