ZooChat Challenge Global 2023 - 10th Anniversary Special!

That's because they have retained the pre-split scientific name and then just gone from that. There haven't been any Morepork in European zoos for a good long while.

OK, fairenoughsee, but you can't blame me for including it based on the information given. I shall remove it from the list.

In retrospect, maybe one of the rules for the Island Hoppers challenge should have been that one of the mammals had to be a non-lemur.

This looks like a great way to organise this! May I ask how you do the spoiler drop-downs?

Same as a quote except you write spoiler instead of quote. So in the following example just replace the word cucumber with spoiler.

This might require some ruling given that Australia itself doesn't count as an island - do the islands off Australia count?

The rules for the Island Hoppers Challenge state that mainland Australia doesn't count. Tasmania isn't part of mainland Australia so I think I can still use Tasmanian Devil for this challenge.

@ThylacineAlive The wording here is throwing me off. Do I actually have to see any 2 fox species and Bat-Eared Fox and Grey Fox? Or would those two not normally count?
I imagine those are just being included there because they aren't part of the genus Vulpes and so otherwise people might have thought they don't count as foxes for the challenge.

@ThylacineAlive The wording here is throwing me off. Do I actually have to see any 2 fox species and Bat-Eared Fox and Grey Fox? Or would those two not normally count?
I assume this would be because the 'true foxes' are included in the Vulpes, and Bat-Eared/Grey Fox are not included in the genus. So for the challenge, seeing any two Vulpes or Bat-Eared/Grey would count.

EDIT: Crosspost with May :P.

A question about the scoring of this challenge
fully complete or fulfill to the fullest extent all 28 (really 29) mini-games as you can by 12/31/23. The person who has completed the most mini-games to the best of their ability by that date will be deemed the winner.
Does this mean that there will be a 'winner' for each challenge not fully completed by anyone and that those challenges will count as complete for the person who had the most progress in the channel, or is the scoring simply whoever had the most fully completed challenges as well as most additional species?

4. Golden Coin Turtle Cuora trifasciata
5. Prehensile-tailed Skink Corucia zebrata
Golden Coin Turtle Cuora trifasciata is not an island endemic..?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the California Academy of Sciences also has Lake Oku clawed frog (Xenopus longipes) in their Amazon Flooded Forest, as reported by @macaw-maniac-91

I believe @Kalaw had the Scarlet chested sunbird (which I do believe may well be the only captive population in the world of the species) down for the bonus and the Lake Oku clawed frog down only for the challenge relating to unique species on the continent. Therefore, while interesting, I don’t think it has a bearing on their totals.

Isn't it endemic to Hainan and Hong Kong?
Hmm, I didn't realise it was a split (so I was thinking of it as being found over quite a bit of Indochina). I don't know if it still counts as an island endemic though, given that Wikipedia says it is extirpated in mainland China and hence now only found in Hainan and Hong Kong.
