I'll travel to Japan in 2023 and I'ill visit many zoos and aquariums, including Toba, but the website of this aquarium is a disaster. I know that its zoological collection is spectacular, but I don't know which ones have their rare species. Do you still have an African manatee? What species of cetaceans and seals do they keep? what sharks? I hope you can help me.

eferringThanks a lot. I was referring to mammals and sharks because they are star species. but obviously I will carefully observe all the species, especially Japanese native animals. I think I'll open a new thread to ask about rare species from all the zoos and aquariums I intend to visit.

I visited in October and I saw quite a few rarities, just as expected. They exhibit 2 alaskan sea otters, 2 of 3 in Japan. 3 Commerson's dolphins are exhibited next to the otters. A large number of Baikal seals are exhibited near the dolphins. Their shark tank is not that astounding, but they hold naitive species such as japanese bullhead sharks. Along with these, they have sandtiger sharks, common stingrays, and Banded houndshark along with occaisional tiger shark pups. Their rare mammals include African Manatees, a Dugong, Indopacific finless porpoise, and others. They do not hold blue ringed octopuses any more nor do they exhibit hawksbill turtles and parrotfish, at least not publicly. I was fortunate enough to be let Backyard and see the Loggerhead/Hawksbill hybrid. The Finless porpoise breeds there and I saw a baby. Hope you enjoy your visit!
Thank you very much for your comment and good wishes.
I want to ask a new question: How much time do you think is necessary to make a calm visit, seeing all the species well and taking many photos of them? We want to visit ISE Zoo Paradise on the same day, because it's very close to Toba, and they exhibit some great rarities, such as Cape clawless otters.
All the day in Toba??? We need some hours for ISE![]()
Ise is a really small place you don't really need a lot of time for that. All the day in Toba??? We need some hours for ISE![]()
I think the only really interesting species at ISE are the otters, although I'm sure there's something else.Ise is a really small place you don't really need a lot of time for that.
