Nothing has been said regarding the future of cheetahs but I don't see why they would go out of them. The current situation is only temporary and the main cheetah enclosure will be vacant again in a few years anyway. Is it definitely confirmed that they will go out of cheetahs or will they return once heart of Africa is completed?
I agree with your first point, although I am perhaps partly guilty of this myself, but I do think that if they really wanted to breed Jaguars, they could house a new pair for breeding alongside Napo if they used up all of Spirit of The Jaguar.Zoos and conservation aren't just about breeding animals though - the jaguar and lions at Chester are great ambassadors for their species, and their exhibits can always house breeding animals one day in the future. I'm sure you mean well but it does bug me when people expect all the animals in a zoo to be breeding - and just because some of the big cats don't breed, doesn't mean they don't deserve to live in excellent enclosures. It would be nice to see a new breeding pair of jaguars I admit, but only if Napo can stay as well, he is a very popular animal and personally I hope he stays at Chester permanently, perhaps with a new companion if possible.
I have spotted him there a couple of times.Tuan can sometimes be seen at the back of the netted enclosure where nima currently is
And do you think that the reason nima was in realm of the Red Ape is because of a possible pregnancy perhaps
That's my early summer plans sorted then. When I mentioned the cubs to the commanding officer the other night it was the most excited I've ever seen her about anything zoo related haha.Sifaka were amazing when I visted over the weekendI overheard the tiger cubs won't be onshow until April time. Do Boris, Nicky and Friday live completely off show now?
No one at The Zoo has said that they plan to go out of Cheetahs. My question was as anyone heard of any plans to reintroduce fresh blood in a few years time after 'Heart of Africa' is completed. And start a Cheetah breeding program again in the exhibit. Is it definitely confirmed that they will go out of cheetahs or will they return once heart of Africa is completed?
I'm prepared to be corrected because I haven't actually visited (heresy, I know), but I remember reading recently someone visited and saw the trio, so I'd imagine they're just cycled on and off show with the rest of the chimps.
Cerperal, in answer to your questions I would suggest visiting sometime between Easter and the school summer holidays - which can be very busy. Obviously weekdays are quieter then weekends. You can get around the zoo in a day if you walk quite fast but that gives little time to 'stop and stare', to visit all of the indoor exhibits, to spend time looking at the ones you are particularly interested in, to have a boat ride, or to revisit any areas.
As far as I know, the paddock they have access to, is off show, as is their area of the house.

I was talking to a keeper about brining in a new Jaguar, they said to me “there is no need to bring in a new Jaguar to breed because we do not need any more in Europe at this moment of time” so no I don’t think they are bringing in a new Jaguar.Has anyone who has been in contact with Keeper experiences etc heard anything about future plans for the Big Cats.
Its Great News that Dash was Brought in and Chester have now announced 2 Cubs to Kisarna.
There was also the announcement that the new State of The Art Snow Leopard enclosure is being planned and a breeding pair to join Chester in the near future.
Is there any future plans to Bring in Jaguars as Chester has one of the best Jaguar exhibits in Europe - But the current male cant breed.
Asiatic Lions - Chester Built the brand new enclosure yet the 2 females are now probably past breeding age and again the Male is infertile.
Just seems a shame that Chester has some of the best facilities available and has come on amazingly over the last few years with its success in Breeding Critically endangered species. Yet The Jaguars and Asiatic Lions are not breeding.
At least 2 French zoos have started the breeding of Jaguars in the recent years : the Parrot World (that has opened in 2020) and the Zoo de Martinique.I was talking to a keeper about brining in a new Jaguar, they said to me “there is no need to bring in a new Jaguar to breed because we do not need any more in Europe at this moment of time” so no I don’t think they are bringing in a new Jaguar.
As reported on socials - she’s been named Kintana!
