saw wilder and monte Allen, I don’t think they’re active currently
Saw most of the animals minus rrh and didn’t go to bear wood and gelada rocks, saw all the lemurs which was nice cause I hadn’t seen the red bellied lemurs for a while
Lots of the vegetation has been cut back, especially near the old wolf enclosure, outskirts of webbs brake and the bare foot trail
Saw all the birds in the walled garden and the Sumatran song thrush from Bristol

That’d be Sumatran Laughingthrush. What other birds are there now?
 
The Sumatran Laughingthrush has always been in the last exhibit in the walled garden opposite the weavers. As of the week before Xmas none of the birds from Bristol had gone on display yet.

Charles, by missing the RRH and not going to Gelada Rocks and Bear Wood, you’ve missed half the zoo lol

I couldn’t see RRH and bear wood was closing by the time we were going there hah

7 turtle doves which they said are with the weaver birds but I couldn’t see them and they only had signage for the weavers and minandao bleeding heart doves
2 minandao bleeding heart doves
2 tarictic hornbills
1 Sumatran song thrush
I can’t remember if anything else moved up there but correct me if I’m wrong

Does anyone remember what animals were at wildplace when it first opened? I was quite young so can’t remember but saw on an old map a “birds of Australia” exhibit and wondered which lemurs they had originally too

When they opened they definitely had Cassowary next to the Okapi. There was Ring-Tailed and Red Bellied lemurs.
That was about it, there was a lot designed for kids as well. It wasn't too long after they got River Hogs which were down by the Zebra's, then I think it was 15/16 that the Cheetah exhibit and Giraffe house was built.
But there wasn't much there when it opened, but definitely Cassowary, Okapi, Zebra, Ring-Tailed and Red Bellied Lemur.
 
Visited wildplace today 1/2/23

saw almost all of the animals today, it was very packed and the volunteers were much more sociable than previous visits which was nice

they’ve began to start cutting down vegetation and trees in the old wolf enclosure presumably in preparation for the gorillas as some of the trees had already been cut down and they were cutting down some more whilst I was there

not much else to say really
 
I’m presuming the ring tailed lemurs have bred before but have any of the other lemurs had offspring?

I know there are 4 or 5 lac alaotran lemurs so I would suspect they have had offspring but I don’t know about the others

The belted ruffed lemurs have bred at least once, in 2017.
 
New CGI released giving a glimpse into the look of the new Bristol Zoo.

The article below via the link doesn’t appear to provide anything particularly new from what has been previously revealed. I’d personally be a bit happier if we could start to see some movement at the Wild Place site of areas being prepared, especially as the winter months can be the better time for disruption when visitor numbers are likely to be lower.

It might be worth mentioning that the article states that species moving from the Clifton site
"will be joined by new additions from other zoos and aquariums around the world, such as two black rhinoceros, north African red-necked ostrich and grevy’s zebra."

The species list for what is coming so happy okapi are officially coming back and mandrills have been announced

unexpected that Nile lechwe are joining the collection, but the eland aren’t on the
List so I’m guessing that they’re replacing them :( wish they could have both

unfortunately there aren’t many more birds than they’ve announced but still a great list

Is that the full finalised list of animals for the opening of Phase 1 or is there still a chance for more species to be announced (I'm hoping for Pygmy Hippo potentially)? I'm obviously still happy with the species that have been announced currently like Okapi, Mandrills, and Ostrich.
 
I find it interesting that animals like gibbons, wisent, tigers, Przewalski's horses are nowhere to be found despite appearing in initial spreadsheets for the new Bristol Zoo - though I appreciate maybe these animals will arrive later.

(I don’t know for sure) they said 76 species will be at the collection and only 71 are detailed unfortunately I think Pygmy hippo are unlikely although I think they would be a great entry attraction but I’m hoping at the very least the accidentally left out the red bellied lemurs as i don’t want them to go

but I think it’s likely they’ve missed some out as all the articles mention Corfu killifish but they aren’t mentioned on the actual list
 
Does this mean existing species like Red River Hog, Reindeer etc that aren't mentioned will go? I have just noticed two reindeer have moved to the Beale trust at Pangbourne yesterday- does that indicate a phaseout perhaps?

It seems odd to replace the rarer Drills, which they had until recently at the zoo site, with Mandrills but no doubt colour is a factor there. Pleased to see that Okapi will return and another iconic species at the old zoo in the past- Grevy's Zebra, too. Its possible the current plains zebra and eland might disappear as a result of these plans too.
