ZSL London Zoo London Zoo News 2023

Interesting article in the Guardian this morning, more engagement from Matthew Gould, who may be shaping up to be a very good thing indeed for ZSL.

I have my doubts about the sustainability of the £3 scheme and it has meant I have stopped visiting for a bit, to let the crowds ebb away. But good to have a positive article about zoos in the press, especially without the cute new baby animal angle.

Letting thousands of poorer families into London Zoo for £3 has changed us for ever | Matthew Gould
I have just posted this same link in the General Zoo Discussion forum, because I think it has wider implications for British zoos in general and perhaps for other zoos around the world too. I encourage ZooChatters to read it.

I think its an excellent idea, opening up the possibilities of a zoo visit to many who would otherwise not have the opportunity to do so. Would probably want to avoid visiting on a day when these offers are on though...;)

The ZSL Community Access Scheme ends at the end of March. I believe that the weekends are fully booked

Spoken to a colleague who works at London Zoo and Nuru is settling in well and she's getting use to life at London

Just as a sidenote, I've noticed your tendency to refer to people you've spoken to online as your "colleagues" - in all probability it is not a good idea to repeatedly imply that you are a zoo professional when this is not the case :) unless you are indeed working at Chessington, London, Howletts and Flamingoland all at once!

I suspect your intended word in these cases is "contact" or "acquaintance" :)

I did see Nuru yesterday ( Friday) out in the paddock. At the moment, she has her own section on the paddock, divided part, although she can see the other 2 giraffes and the zebras

Was looking at the Zootierliste website and it says London has ostrich? How long have they had ostrich?

Where did you see this? I've checked ZTL and it doesn't mention London under any Ostrich subspecies. They certainly don't have any ostrich at the moment, although they have had in the past...
