Mad March Hare-brained Photo Puzzle

I have attached my file of answers. The only thing that people missed is that No 2 is actually a Grauer's gorilla (Amaharo at Antwerp, the only one outside Africa) - although it's almost impossible to tell from that little photo. Gorilla gorilla fits just as well of course.
I thank and congratulate everyone who had a go at this puzzle. I hope you enjoyed it.
I must admit that I enjoyed composing it, because devising ways of bending the rules to fit the photos to the alphabet was a challenge. I discarded Iguana iguana and llama as too easy, but resisted Melanochromis joanjohnsonae and Xiphophorus xiphidium because they would be much too hard (and I didn't have any photos of them either). I managed to sort out JJ and YY by some mild trickery and the Aye-aye seemed to good to miss. HH was originally the Harris hawk, but I changed it the Harrier hawk, and then I accidentally found about the Harlequin, so that was a last minute substitute. The only options I could think of for ZZ were Zee Zee Top and Ms Gabor: it was an easy decision to make on aesthetic grounds.
I think this my last puzzle for a while as I don't think I can improve on this. But never say 'never.'

Missed opportunity to use jar jar binks instead of two jays

Quite true, but I think adding a fictional character would have added an extra level of difficulty.
I should have thought of J J Thomson (discoverer of the electron), but I didn't. I did remember J J Okocha (who played for Bolton Wanderers and Nigeria) and J J Johnson (who played trombone for Count Basie and many others). I considered the great John James Audubon, the ornithologist and artist of the picture of the sharp-shinned hawk that I used because I have never seen one (Zootierliste does not include the species); I should have mentioned his name before, but the puzzle might have been too difficult if I had used it as a question.
