Wonferful news from Besançon with the second birth of a François' leaf monkey in the zoo's history. The group is now composed of : Ping and Johan, the breeding pair, born in 2018 and 2012, Bao (male), the first offspring born in march 2020, and the newborn.
 
In september the Citadelle, together with the Muséum and the Biodiversity French Office, released 290 stone crayfishes born last June.
This species is critically endangered, on the french red list, and just survive in two rivers in east France.
A breeding program was created in the Citadelle three years ago to increase the wild population and now show good results.
 
For the first time the zoo welcome a pair of two-toed sloths yesterday november 11th. The pair came from Montpellier which was obliged to send the animals with the closure of the tropical house.
The sloths will be housed in a part of the primates pit near the entrance. They will have an outdoor + an indoor room with viewing windows for visitors.
 
The Zoo received last november 10th a ten years old male two-toed sloth from Beauval. He will stay there for few weeks before he reaches its final destination Mulhouse.
 
Fantastic news from Besançon with again birth of a crowned sifaka and a François' langur in last january.

The zoo has now 4 sifakas and 5 langurs :cool:

La Citadelle de Besançon voit naître deux espèces "en danger d'extinction"
Another great birth of crowned sifaka in january (a female). This is the fifth one for mother Raozy. The father is 27 years old and the oldest crowned sifaka in Europe. The zoo has now 5 of the 18 crowned sifakas in captivity in the world.
