West Midland Safari and Leisure Park West Midland Safari Park 2023

Sad news from the park today
" we are saddened to announce the passing of two of our cheetah zuri and cody.
They had both been suffering from kidney disease and as their quality of life declined and the keepers made the heartbreaking decision to euthanasia the two cats ." thoughts go the keepers as this very sad time .

It is sad news isn't it but it's best for them and their welfare reasons

How many Grevy’s zebra (Equus grevyi) do they have at the minute? Just curious because there’s been the new foal, I assume they’re keeping them in the new hoofstock building in the corner of the African Plains near the entrance as there was no sign of them when I visited last Thursday.

When I was talking to the keeper they told me they had a male backstage and two females on show. Not sure if this is still true though.

Thanks for that, it does raise the question where the male is being kept as I'm struggling to think of where on site he would be given the conversion of the fields behind the African Village to the new lion enclosure and the redevelopment of half of the African Plains but I guess we'll find out at some point.

Nice to see that he has moved on. The enclosure did look a bit crowded a few weeks ago when I last visited. Shame that they cannot mix with the others in the drive through reserve.

Which others are you referring to?

I was referring to the other species in that section of the drive. It includes blackbuck, banteng and I think barashinga. It is also quite a big area so there woukd defenitly be plenty of space for the rhino's to roam.

Both females and Inesh were allowed access onto the reserve at selected times which to be honest was more often than not. Only Rap didn't have the access out but would be rotated across both paddocks based on whether the females were out. Hope this helps
