Considering Anjan's not even five yet, I don't think he would be the one being transferred just yet. It would also be beneficial for him to still be around for Sundara's next calf as well.

I would anticipate they’d wait until not only is Sundara pregnant, but several months into the pregnancy before they transfer Aung Bo out. They want to ensure she will carry the pregnancy to term and there’s no harm in waiting a few more months.

Considering people on here were speculating Sundara was pregnant a year ago (and it’s been in the plans), it’s possible she may have already had an early miscarriage (or failed to conceive on an earlier cycle) if she’s only recently been mated again.

With regards to Aung Bo, we haven’t heard an announcement from Chester that the EEHV vaccine trial (which he’s participating in) has wrapped up. For the sake of consistent data, they can’t disrupt this trial by moving him to a new location, so this may also influence the timing of his departure.

Lilac breasted rollers

Also while on the topic on birds with them no longer onshow in dragons In danger does anyone know if the javan green magpies have gone back onshow in
The sumatra aviary in islands or are the Sumatran laughingthrushes still in the javan green magpie aviary in islands.

I visited 9 days ago and it was still the Sumatran laughingthruses
 
Does Spirit of the Jaguar still have the leafcutter ant colony? When I last visited in March 2022 they had been taken away because some work was being done to the area, have they come back since, or are they gone?

There are some, but they are scattered throughout the zoo. I expect you know the main places to look, but there are one or two surprises - I didn't expect to see flower beetles mixed with the Gaboon viper i the Okapi House.

I have a rough idea of where most of the insects and other arthropods are, and I'm mostly going by what the zoo's Wikipedia page (if it's accurate) mentions. The rhinoceros beetles, katydids and leaf insects in Realm of the Red Ape and the vampire crabs in Monsoon Forest are ones I'm eager to see.
 
Rhinoceros beetles have left the collection, Phyllium are currently in Monsoon Forest.

In terms of rarity I think the Marmessoidea 'kubah', also in Monsoon, are the real insect highlights.
 
Does anyone know how big the Sulawesi crested macaque enclosure is (inside and outside) and how big the lowland anoa enclosure is?

I personally don't but the Macaques are in the Monsoon Forest and I don't think there is an outside section that you can view from outside of MF.

There is also two areas of the zoo with Lowland Anoa.

Not sure if I'm misunderstanding but, although the macaques are more often inside, there absolutely is a huge outside enclosure (comparable to the orang ones) with big viewing areas opposite the Manado Street Cafe (before the babirusa), and which is also visible from the boat ride.

Oh right ! Didn't realise that, I had only seen them have the bits inside and when cleaned in exhibit, was no obvious way the group could get to another outside area. As when they clean them, they shut in house and put all food on the rocks in the inside/outside bit. Didn't realise they actually have a proper outdoor access area with grass and all that.

Islands and where is the other place
Because the last place in that wasn't islands that I saw an anoa was the old bongo/ banteng / temporary blesbok enclosure but when i visited last that enclosure was empty and unsigned along with the bird nursery

Male Anoa is over at Holding. Has an exhibit over there.

From memory I think the access is through/over the holding cages visible at the back of the indoor enclosure.

For the record, this is what you must have walked past without seeing. :D

Does anyone know who the alpha male is for the chimpanzees and if there is an alpha female now?
