Both of these are very attractive species and great pickups. Bay-headed tanager in particular is a rarity - I believe the only other holder in the US is the National Aquarium, plus four collections in Europe.
Dallas World Aquarium also has Bay-Headed Tanagers, Houston did, not sure if they still have behind the scenes and will return in the birds of the world, or they might be gone.

California Academy of Sciences also had them signed in February, but I didn't see any there, or at Dallas either.

A 2-year-old female giraffe named Asha arrived at the zoo from Zoo Miami last weekend. I was wondering if we were getting a giraffe when I saw a tall trailer arrive into the zoo when I was visiting this past weekend.

As mentioned in this thread last month, a couple capuchins were to be moved to Brookfield Zoo.

I wonder where they would go, and when they will arrive.

They have arrived and once they've completed quarantine, they can be seen in the South America section of Tropic World.

Happy to hear about the capuchins! I'm looking forward to them a lot.

Did Puzzle ever go on exhibit at Australia House?

Some notes from things I’ve noticed over the past week:

Adult male nyala Hamilton is currently residing in the former outdoor klipspringer exhibit (though klipspringer signage remains). The females have been kept off exhibit.

Construction has finally begun on the outdoor macaw “exhibits”. Nearby, glass has been placed on the sides of the new turtle exhibits. I will be uploading photos of both soon.

I was told recently the BZ no longer has red pandas. Is this correct? If so anybody know why and what would replace them in the Wild Encounters exhibit?

Thanks for the info. That is sad news. I thought there was more than one red panda for the exhibit but I guess not. Hopefully BZ can acquire more for the exhibit. They were a highlight of the Wild Encounters.

Diesel, the zoo's male Grevy's zebra, has been reintroduced to females Mypa and Nyota for breeding. Likewise for the red-flanked duikers (male Hank, females Iggy and Beatrice).

The reticulated pythons in Reptiles & Birds will be off exhibit for a few weeks while their exhibit gets renovated and expanded.

Fruit doves (not sure of which species) will soon occupy the former loris exhibit in Tropic World: Asia.

Zoey, the zoo's female black-footed cat, will be moving to the San Diego Zoo next week. Not sure if we will be getting another one, or replace the exhibit with a different species.

The seasonal Butterflies! exhibit will have a delayed opening this year (usually around Memorial Day). It should be open by late June.

How exactly is this one being expanded? Is it being extended into an adjacent terrarium?

This is an odd replacement. The way that enclosure is setup seems woefully inadequate for any bird species. A reptile or amphibian would have been far more appropriate.

Lots of shakeups going on around the zoo with species leaving and new ones being brought in. I really hope black-footed cat won't be leaving the collection for good. I could see the Matschie's tree kangaroo taking up the empty red panda enclosure and I'd be happy to see it on exhibit, although I think it's likely another red panda will be brought in when one becomes available. Also it's a bit odd that construction hasn't started on the new aviaries yet. Work was supposed to start last month with completion slated for the beginning of next month, but there has not been any visible progress on any of them.

I’m not sure. I will see next week.

Totally agree, definitely not suitable for birds. My worry is them flying into the glass. I’d imagine there would be something on the glass to prevent them from doing that, though.

I will walk around the zoo next week and see if progress, if any, has been made. Wouldn’t be surprised if nothing has happened yet, though. The zoo seems to be taking their sweet time on renovations/new exhibit building.

I believe there were two red pandas at one time. There was previously an individual named Paboo, although the only information on this animal appears to be a single social media post. They are both said to have arrived in 2018.

I know this is extremely ridiculous of me but I'm going to be extremely disappointed if we lose black-footed cat in the collection. Zoey is one of my favorite animals in the entire zoo and it is seeing her specifically that developed my fondness for the species. I wish I could justify a trip on Thursday or Friday to see her before she goes.

Agreed on the pythons and doves and I agree it's strange about the aviary exhibits as well. I had brought up the Eurasian eagle owl to a friend of mine today and it popped into the back of my mind we still haven't heard news on them.

The second one with Paboo was Beatrix, who died in November of 2018.

Paboo was renamed Leo shortly after arrival.
