Both of these are very attractive species and great pickups. Bay-headed tanager in particular is a rarity - I believe the only other holder in the US is the National Aquarium, plus four collections in Europe.in Feathers & Scales, a chestnut-backed thrush and a pair of bay-headed tanagers.
Dallas World Aquarium also has Bay-Headed Tanagers, Houston did, not sure if they still have behind the scenes and will return in the birds of the world, or they might be gone. Both of these are very attractive species and great pickups. I wonder where they would go, and when they will arrive.
Did Puzzle ever go on exhibit at Australia House?
I was told recently the BZ no longer has red pandas. Is this correct? If so anybody know why and what would replace them in the Wild Encounters exhibit?
How exactly is this one being expanded? Is it being extended into an adjacent terrarium? The reticulated pythons in Reptiles & Birds will be off exhibit for a few weeks while their exhibit gets renovated and expanded.
This is an odd replacement. The way that enclosure is setup seems woefully inadequate for any bird species. A reptile or amphibian would have been far more appropriate.Fruit doves (not sure of which species) will soon occupy the former loris exhibit in Tropic World: Asia.

Also it's a bit odd that construction hasn't started on the new aviaries yet. Work was supposed to start last month with completion slated for the beginning of next month, but there has not been any visible progress on any of them.
I believe there were two red pandas at one time. There was previously an individual named Paboo, although the only information on this animal appears to be a single social media post. They are both said to have arrived in 2018.Thanks for the info. That is sad news. I thought there was more than one red panda for the exhibit but I guess not. Hopefully BZ can acquire more for the exhibit. They were a highlight of the Wild Encounters.
I know this is extremely ridiculous of me but I'm going to be extremely disappointed if we lose black-footed cat in the collection. Zoey is one of my favorite animals in the entire zoo and it is seeing her specifically that developed my fondness for the species. I wish I could justify a trip on Thursday or Friday to see her before she goes.Zoey, the zoo's female black-footed cat, will be moving to the San Diego Zoo next week. Not sure if we will be getting another one, or replace the exhibit with a different species.
Agreed on the pythons and doves and I agree it's strange about the aviary exhibits as well. I had brought up the Eurasian eagle owl to a friend of mine today and it popped into the back of my mind we still haven't heard news on them. How exactly is this one being expanded? Is it being extended into an adjacent terrarium?

Lots of shakeups going on around the zoo with species leaving and new ones being brought in. I really hope black-footed cat won't be leaving the collection for good. I could see the Matschie's tree kangaroo taking up the empty red panda enclosure and I'd be happy to see it on exhibit, although I think it's likely another red panda will be brought in when one becomes available.
