Beale Park Beale Wildlife Park 2023

Have the meerkats and porcupine swapped enclosures?

Yep. Made more sense for enclosure use, size and positioning within the park. Meerkats are very popular, so put them in the middle etc

Looking forward to visiting for the first time on Monday! Might be short for time so any must sees?

Beale is one of 3 ZTL collections with a North Sumatran bronze-tailed pheasant
and the only one with a rufous-vented laughing thrush

Definitely recommend checking out both pairs of Mara and the lynx enclosure / tayra. And the nocturnal house is well worth some time.

Try catch a binturong talk (if there's one on). The keepers have been working hard on training them and it's the best view you'll get of them.
Twilight Zone, Crocodile Creche, baby Mara (near the tapir) and at least 8 baby prairie dogs.

Also new exhibit Human Nature; the place where the human race clash with the natural world, there are 8 species on display that have either suffered badly from human interaction or have adapted and greatly benefitted from it. Each enclosure in this immersive building is themed to tell their stories. Hopefully you'll find it entertaining and thought provoking.:DIMG_6884.jpeg

What are the eight species, please? Black Rats and….

Great hours visit to Beale today! The site is much bigger than I'd anticipated and clearly has huge potential. Some of the bird aviaries and mammal enclosures are very nice - I especially liked the rhea exhibit.

I've always had a soft spot for chacoan mara, so was very happy to see the youngster suckling from mum inside. Some great mixed species exhibits that I've not encountered before too.

I did find myself hunting for signage at times and was occasionally left unsure as to whether an exhibit actually held animals (or not), but that didn't take away too much from the experience.

By no means a full day zoo, but certainly worth a visit! Will also post some photos in the gallery shortly.

What are some of the aviary mixes at Beale? Looking on media there is (or was?) a aviary with turaco and whistling ducks and a few others. I’m looking to visit soon.

That’s a big question. We’ve got several aviaries, but do mean the ones with single species (burrowing owls, kooks, snowys etc) or just mixed?

There are 3 mixed aviaries:

1:sun conures, Patagonian conures, glossy starlings, white shouldered starlings and rufous vented laughingthrushes (only ones in EU), and azaras agoutis

2: scarlet ibis, crimson bellied conures, yellow shouldered amazons, Palawan peacock pheasants, purple swamphens, Guinea fowl, common quail, collared hill partridge, Javan sparrows

3: Stanley crane, little egret, ringed teal, red breasted geese, masked plover

I think that’s everything

Lovely species! Do you have any photos of the aviary’s? I don't know which ones they are on the gallery.
