Paignton Zoo Paignton Zoo 2023

This frees up the off show primate cage for an import, hopefully?
….., I was informed that the Pied Tamarins are going back into their original house (a back track), that the adult female Pileated Gibbon will be given a breeding break (& that they’d like to extend the Pileated house). The new Sloth exhibit now has platforms & there has been some foliage clearance.

The last remaining Emu has died, leaving another big empty space in the zoo. The Ranch building is no longer a home for animals, having been adapted for centenary stuff.
I did not appreciate the member of staff trying to stop me from being dropped off at the entrance today (something necessary) because of school coaches arriving. 'Schools go free in 2023' being given priority over paying customers

Apparently, the zoo are going to share ‘some’ of their future plans with us in the Ranch at the weekend, as part of the Centenary celebrations?

The Sulawesi Crested Macaques who moved from Newquay to Paignton in 2020 are being mixed with the main group.
I was at Newquay today. What the hell is happening with the old macaque enclosure? It must be usable for something surely?!!

I’m really looking forward to finding out about the zoo’s future at this weekend’s Centennial party, where they’ve stated they will share their history and developments going forward. I hope it is animal focused as opposed to new paths, catering and car park plans

We enjoyed another brilliant visit to Paignton Zoo last weekend, our first since the lions were moved across from Newquay Zoo.

It's wonderful to have such a large zoo with so many animals to see.

Highlights for us were the lions, tigers, cheetah, zebra, giraffe, rhino, gorillas, orangutans, gibbons, lemurs and red panda.

It definitely feels like the 'back end' of the zoo needs a major overhaul (former Crocodile Swap, Baboon Rock, vet centre, giant tortoises and various small aviaries) because it lacks any kind of identity and the pathways are all quite random and too narrow. Otherwise, it all seems to be looking pretty good.

I'm guessing you mean 'Crocodile Swamp'.

'Crocodile Swap' might be more accurate. The crocs will certainly be moving on, if they have not done so already. I like to think that Paignton might get something interesting in return. There is certainly some space to be filled.
The crocs are still there, waiting to be moved on. The zoo will hopefully release information this coming week about the exhibit that will sit on the footprint of Baboon Rock and the areas around it.

I think FBbird was referring to Newquays Macacque enclosure? However, you are correct in assuming the bird species will reduce even further at this once great collection.
Oops! My mistake for reading too quickly. Thanks for catching that.

The development of Croc Swamp won’t reduce the bird collection?

That’s correct, it’s never housed birds. The comments were about the ongoing reduction in bird species being kept at Paignton and how not to expect the croc swamp enclosure to be revamped to exhibit any.
