The zoo will give up harbor seals. Their last male will go to Italy next month. Their two females died last year due to intoxication by heavy metals from feeder fish.

They would like to reconstruct their area for giant otters and jaguarundi cats.

Yesterday, last harbor seal, male Robbie (* Ústí) was transported to Italy.
And some possibly more optimistic news:
this year should be finished new exhibit for rolloway monkeys
blue duikers
There are also plans for howler monkey exhibits, but finances for it are "stucked" in russian Sberbank, realisation depends on its acquisition.
If succeeds, Jihlava would be only czech facility keeping this genus
(I guess they were however kept in past in some other zoo?)
 
The new enclosure for blue duikers is ready. The zoo "just" needs to get the animals.

I´m not aware of a Czech (or Slovak) zoo ever keeping howler monkeys in the past, I ´ve never come across any old picture or remark in old literature. ZTL also comes blank.

In the forest above the zebra exhibit and IIRC they wanted to get animals from Asson.

However in the interview director also mentioned that they might bring them in "incognito" an only publicly announce them if everything goes well.

Thank you! I remember the place was under development and I hope that they manage to get them. Just saw that Duisburg lost their Duikers and would be very nice, if Jihlava add them to their impressive line up. They know how to rear rare species and they would be the only easy accessible collection in continental Europe with Blue Duiker.
 
According to pics posted online by a local zoo fan, striped hyenas have 3 lovely small cubs!

I think these are first surviving cubs since 30 years ago at any Czech zoo, so they are pretty special.

The zoo started a new "meet an animal" program - with babirusas. I´m tempted... I always loved to scratch their bellies through bars in the past, be it at Jihlava or Usti (in their former enclosures).

The zoo has now also confirmed the birth of the striped hyenas.

Nice one. They even hatched in a natual nest and not in an incubator. (While I was always a little puzzled and sceptical about their exhibit in a hot tropical pavilion.)

The zoo´s PR department published few pics itself. I´m jungle cat fan so decided to link one of them, I like its "dark chocolate" morf. It´s such a pitty this species is not recommended by EAZA to be kept in collections due to its least concerned status and lack of any program.

At the end of August 3 Capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) were born.

In July a Common Scops-owl (Otus scops) hatched, according to ZTL Jihlava is no-longer a holder of this species (which seems incorrect).

Around 2 months ago a male Nepalese red panda (Ailurus fulgens) was born.

On the 6th of September a Linnaeus' two-toed sloth (Choloepus didactylus) was born. The zoo now has 1,2,1 sloths.

The zoo bred Solomon Islands skink triplets! This is pretty rare - females give birth to big babies and they are singletons (or more rare twins) after long pregnancy. Pretty interesting species with strong social life - adults live in bonded (married) pairs and they take care of their offspring.

A new exhibit showcasing Czech domestic animals named Czech treasures has opened at the end of the zoo, behind the large playground. Some of the breeds include:
Hares: český luštič, český strakáč, černožlutý and český červený
Pigeons: benešovštví holubi
and more
In the future, there should also be an enclosure for Wallachian sheep (Valašské ovce)
