Guess the Zoos and Animal

I thought I might revive a game I created a few years back, but this time with a variation inspired by a contest I saw held in a zoo magazine.

RULES
1. Three zoos from one country will be chosen and a fact will be stated about each of them. You have to identify which zoos are being described based on the facts provided.
2. In addition, the three zoos will all have an animal species that is, for that country, unique to those three zoos. You have to guess what species that is.
3. More clues will be posted daily until someone guesses the zoos and shared animal.
4. Anyone who guesses correctly can then have a go.

I hope that makes sense. Anyway, lets start and see if this works.

COUNTRY: Germany

ZOO 1: This zoo is one of the top five oldest in the country, having opened in the 1860s.

ZOO 2: A documentary series that featured this zoo first aired in 2006.

ZOO 3: One of this zoo's exhibits was the second largest of its kind in the world.
 
Here's another clue for the three German zoos.

ZOO 1: Two books have been written involving this zoo - sadly, both involving death.

ZOO 2: This zoo is divided by a major highway

ZOO 3: A research center at this zoo studies the cognition of chimpanzees and other apes.
 
Okay let's give this a try

Country Germany (sorry but that's the only one where I think I can make this interesting)

1. The zoo keeps more species of the systematic group the species we look for is in than any other zoo in Europe
2. The zoo was the coordinator of the breeding program for the species we look for for more than 30 years
3. The zoo is most well known for a collection of a systematic group of animaly that is often neglected in zoos
 
My turn, I guess. This zoo was where the only rhinoceros in the world who was elected councilor lived.
 
Quick Question. If the animal species is behind the scenes, does it count for being in the challenge. For example, Stuttgart has Koalas bts, so would it be a species included in that zoo for this challenge?

It wasn’t your turn ;). You have to guess the zoos that the person before you choose. If you get them first, then you go, and you have to state 3 zoos unique to that animal :p.

The correct answer would be Rio de Janeiro, but yours is also technically right
