Are These in Captivity? #2

If you don't mind me asking, how would one go about accessing those old records? I'm deeply interested in the history of the Tarpan (Or rather, the Heck horse) in America.

You have to work at a zoo that uses ZIMS and have a job that requires use of it (like keeper).

Even with ZIMS access, it’s not easy to do a historic search for the holdings of an institution that you aren’t affiliated with - it’s kind of searching for a needle in a haystack otherwise. The reason I first found out about the tarpans was that I found an actual hard copy of the studbook when I was sorting through some old boxes

Are coastal wolves (Canis lupus crassodon, C. l. ligoni and/or C. l. columbianus) held anywhere in captivity? Including rescues and private holdings.

Also, are there any Pale Foxes, Crab-Eating Foxes, Corsac Foxes, Golden Jackals, African Golden Wolves, Kiangs, or Onagers (any sub) in the US or Canada? I’m pretty sure there’s no Kiangs, but it’s worth a shot. And are there any Island Foxes in captivity outside of California? Thank you so much, sorry for all the questions!

There's a couple of pale foxes, none at remotely reputable places unfortunately. Animal Adventures in MA is the main place. No to the other canids. A few onagers about, as well. I'm not sure of all of the holders but the largest visible herd is at The Wilds, Persian Onager | The Wilds. Island foxes are only at the 3-4 places in CA.

No Golden Wolves or Golden Jackels unfortunately

Are there any American zoos with limpkin (Aramus guarauna), or has this species ever been maintained long-term under human care?

I'm not aware of any collections currently or formerly housing Limpkin. I wouldn't be surprised if they start popping up in collections as rescues more often in the future though, as they are rapidly expanding their range northwards.

Are Screaming Pihas kept in any other zoos aside from the National Aviary in Pittsburgh or Burgers’ Bush?

Quick question, does anyone know when the last kiangs in NA died out? The latest I’ve been able to find was 2008, but San Diego still had about 14 then if my information was correct.

In 2008, San Diego sent their kiangs to Don Shadow (Shadow Nursery, Winchester, Tennessee). It seems likely that he still holds the species. Does anyone have any further data?
