Marwell Wildlife Marwell Zoological Park 2023

I didn't take it to mean that Thriving Through Nature is open, just that they could see into it.

Interesting news that there is more progress with the bush dog enclosure and what is happening with the red river hogs? That is the first I have heard of anything.

Answers to a couple of HelloCrossy's questions.

The zoo has announced that they will be expanding the snow leopard exhibit to 3 times its current size. That would have been the work you saw there.

The closed off aviary next to cold blooded corner was at one point a walk through golden lion tamarin enclosure. I think it was briefly an aviary after that (can't remember if it was still walkthrough or not) but hasn't been open for some time.

The Red River Hog female is due to give birth may well have done so by now.

Do you think it will be used for animals?

So is the exhibit now open? Very strange that Marwell would not announce that, yet announces non-animal events to take place.
There are no plans for the old Marabou area at the moment they are just clearing the ground.

I wouldn't think so, the netting and animal housing are no longer there, it's just a fence (marabou)

So, I forgot to mention this, but I did see 3 people seemingly being given a tour, but there were still construction fences. Did see a baby hog so probably that! I will send a few photos now but most are on my PC.

I wonder if the reason the bush dogs are taking a while is because of architectural reasons?
I recall when the foxes were still there [which rarely left their den] there were plastic domes which young visitors could use to 'enter' the fox's exhibit. This is something typically done with meerkats, but Marwell has also done it with domestic rabbit in the past.
And so I wonder if tending of the domes is making the reconstruction of the fox/dog enclosure longer than it was with the erstwhile-ocelot [now caracara] enclosure?
Not really 'domes' but tubes/tunnels with glass at the ends.......

I was just looking at the 'Developments' page on the Marwell website (which I great - I wish more zoos did this) and I noticed something I haven't seen mentioned before:
A mixed area is being developed for the golden lion tamarins and pygmy marmosets (presumably the ones already at the zoo) with the addition of Brazilian guinea pigs, which from what I can gather are not kept at Marwell currently.

The latest of many other iterations for GLT I see..!
But this really does sound like a nice thing - especially with the wild cavy ! I recall Marwell held them in the mid-2000s, but haven’t held them since. Really cool !

Good news about Thriving Through Nature. I need to make another visit soon. Can't do this weekend unfortunately.

Trying to think where the tamarin/guinea pig exhibit would be. The obvious option would be a re-organisation Life Among the Trees seeing as the tamarins and marmosets are already there, although not in the same enclosure. Guinea pigs though wouldn't fit with the theme. If it isn't there I can't think where else it would be. Maybe it is a new enclosure or a redevelopment of a former enclosure elsewhere.

One thing I also noticed is that ‘Bushtucker Bites’ will be rebranding as ‘Safari Scoops’.
I recall the former name was something of an irk to several members here, myself included, so I will be glad to see its rebranding.

Few questions - apologies if these seem stupid.

I will be visiting next friday. Will the desert house be open by then, and are the snow leopards off show whilst their enclosure is redeveloped?
