Parque de Cotia (new zoo in São Paulo)

one employee said that pelicans and gorillas arrive by the end of the year.
They will also acquire more giraffes to form a couple with the male that is already there.
that's great, i felt the giraffe was feeling so lonely, because they are pack animals, but i'm glad they will bring more.

It's clear that they would not keep a single giraffe. The objective was to bring several more individuals, but we all know how difficult it's been to obtain megafauna in Brazil these days...

Some older but still relevant info. The 2 spotted hyenas currently kept at the zoo are twin brothers born on 27. April 2022. They were exported on 20. December 2022 by Zoo Na Hradecku (small private licensed Czech zoo) to Brazil.

Their parents are called Diego and Shakira and are prolific pair with offspring living at different zoos in Europe (Amneville and Malkia). I don´t know names of the brothers.

Here is video from local media aired after they were born. Video

Hello, Jana! Cotia has also received a pair of striped hyenas from Europe, I believe from Germany. By any means, do you have info on them?
Also, we might be getting some sable antelope and sitatungas from Czechia, iIrc.

that would be really nice.

Beto Carrero World sent 1.2 common chimpanzees to Cotia a couple of months ago. I reckon there is a chance they might end up living in the future gorilla exhibit for a while, as I believe Animália Park is facing some issues with the imports of new animals.

Some older news, published by Olomouc zoo in July 2023. I post here direct translation of excerpts relevant to Cotia or Brazil. :

"On March 28, 2023, we reported on the trip of our wildebeest to the newly opened zoo in Cotia near Sao Paulo, Brazil, which resulted from a 4-year collaboration. It was the first ever white-tailed wildebeest traveling to South America. Other Brazilian zoos are also preparing to keep/breed this species, in order to create a separate/selfsustaining population."

"Researcher associate professor Jan Pluháček has been cooperating with Brazilian zoos for 4 years, especially the newly opened zoo in Cotia near Saõ Paulo. As part of this cooperation, the Olomouc Zoo delivered wildebeest there. The introduction of conservation programs for the Brazilian Zoo Association modeled after the EEP is currently under consultation."
