Ok, so I decided I would also start making polls for UK zoos on species not made yet and then also make ones for them in the Benelux too. I'll be making it soon.

This is just a bit of fun to judge the general consensus on the best enclosure for Fossas in the UK. I have added a few photos from the gallery to make it easier for members to compare the different exhibits. If anyone wants to make an argument for a particular enclosure, please feel free to do so. Also, I would encourage people to list the enclosures in order of what they think is best.

Chester is the clear winner, but I would like to give props to Africa Alive. The facility has had great breeding success in the past, offers good height both in and outdoor, and can accommodate multiple individuals due to the many off show enclosures.

I'm also very glad to see these polls return!

Thanks! I will make some on other species aswell.

I didn’t vote as only seen the one at Africa alive but echo the props for that one - good spaces and you can see the fossa both from the front area windows and the rear area on the aviary side. Decent cover and climbing.

Score update. Chester are far ahead as expected with nearly every vote. Having by far the largest and densest enclosure seems to give them the lead.

Chester’s Fossa enclosure is without doubt the best I’ve ever seen. Not wanting to derail the thread, but equally not wanting to start another simply for this; does anyone know of any others in the world that are better?

Poll closed. Congratulations to Chester for having Best UK Fossa enclosure. The win was easily secured due to the density and size of their enclosure.

That would be 14 now, which are:

Bornean and Sumatran orangs
Black rhino
Sun bear
Andean bear
Jaguar
African wild dog
Giant otter
Mandrill/drill
Binturong
Warthog
Babirusa
Anoa
Tree Kangaroo

And now fossa.

Chester's Binturongs rarely explore outside and certainly not all of the Sun Bear paddocks, when was this poll done, that's one that's a surprise winner for me.

The number of wins might be a reflection on how little competition there is in some of those categories - Sumatran Orangutan, Babirusa, tree kangaroo in particular. There aren't that many holders of anoa, warthog , giant otter, jaguar, or the bears either( though the exhibits for the last 3 would probably win anyway).

I believe Colchester gave some competition to Chester in that poll but the others didn’t have any at all.

In Warthogs it was very tight with 20 votes for Chester and 16 for Colchester so could perhaps have ended the other way. Sun Bears was similarly close and perhaps subjective between the Chester and Colchester with quite different terrains and it maybe could have been closer but Chester also had the breeding success of Kyra that may have been considered by some voters.
However they've done it, with perhaps varying levels of competition and quality in comparison to competitors, Chester probably deserve to have such a large tally of wins with their overall performance.
