Mixed species exhibit ideas

Orangutans are routinely mixed with white-cheeked gibbons - including at Brookfield.
I wasn't sure if that was formally counted. That's actually part of why I asked -- I'm wondering if the outdoor orangutan habitat may be open to the gibbons.

Would these mixes work? In two different exhibits based on different regions.
I was thinking the Asian Arowana may be too aggressive .
1. South-East Asia: Turtles (Golden Coin-, Spiny, Pig-Nosed), Philippine Sailfin-Lizard, Java Sparrow, Mandarin Duck, Oriental Magpie-Robin, Clown Loach, Siamese Algae-Eater, Fire Eel, Giant Danio, Asian Arowana, Pearl Gourami
2. Amazon Basin: Green Basilisk, Twist-Necked Turtle, Ruddy Ground-Dove, Cuban Grassquit, Red-Crested Cardinal, Saffron Finch, Black Ghost Knife-Fish, Silver Dollar, Discus, Cardinal Tetra, Freshwater Angelfish, Bristlenose Pleco

In an exhibit similar to this one at River Wonders in Singapore.

The arowana will eat the algae-eater, danios, and gouramis. Wouldn't put it past them to attempt jumping for the small birds either.

Knifefish will eat the Cardinal tetras, as might the Angelfish if they get big enough. Not sure if mixing the sensitive discus in such a mixed display would work well.

would these freshwater aquarium mixes work?
1. Mystery Snail, Peppermint Pleco, Tetras (Emperor, Rummy-Nose, Neon, Glowlight), Marbled Hatchetfish, Bronze Corydoras, Pink-Tail Chalceus, Royal Whiptail
2. Discus, German Blue-Ram, Amazon Leaf-Fish

1 would work just fine, but 2 would be a tragedy waiting to happen. Amazon Leaf Fish are EXTREMELY aggressive and predatory, so they would probably bully the rams, and/or harass the discus which are naturally sensitive.

Would American white ibis (Eudocimus albus) and scarlet ibis (E. ruber) hybridize if they were kept in the same aviary?

No, as they are from different families
(Petrogale and Notamacropus)

I wouldn't be so sure, as the kangaroos are known to hybridize across genera on occasion. There are numerous documented macropod hybrids to date.

Just because species belong to different genera does not mean they cannot hybridize - waterfowl are a prime example of this.

Would Bearded Reedlings work with Western Capercaillie? My impression is that given the Capercaillie is a ground bird and the Reedlings are more arboreal, it should be fine. Then again, I had that impression with reedlings and Demoiselle Cranes only to discover that the cranes would eat the reedlings.

I think they would work fine together, as capercaillies are herbivorous, and a large aviary would guarantee even less contact between the birds.

Could toucans and toucanets be keep together, if the aviary offered enough space for both species to co-exist? Ex: Keel-Billed Toucan and Emerald Toucanet.

Would False Gharials be fine in an exhibit with large SE Asian fish, like Giant Gouramis, Siamese Carp, Iridescent Shark Catfish, and Asian Arowana, or would they eat them?
The gharials would be fed on a regular basis.

The crocodiles would eat them from time to time, at best. Well fed or not crocodiles don't play nice in the majority of mixes - the smallest crocodilians with large turtles seems to be the safest. While fish are sometimes seen in crocodile ponds, these are normally fish of no value with the understanding the crocs will eat them from time to time.

I've already seen this mix (or a very similar one) in Beauval.
I don't know if some fish are actually eaten by the crocs.
There are also many turtles of 2 (threatened) species.
