I'm visiting again on Monday so It will be nice to see the new Warthogs, Ostrich and Chinese Water Deer
Great to see so many chicks!17 chicks across several species have recently hatched in the Blackburn Pavilion. They include five (3.2) Socorro Doves, a Victoria Crowned Pigeon, two Mountain Peacock-Pheasants, a Superb Fruit-Dove, a Purple-naped Lory, two Orange-headed Thrushes, two Chestnut-backed Thrushes and three Emerald Starlings. Female Socorro Doves are particularly fantastic news: 17 chicks hatch at London Zoo’s walkthrough aviary | London Zoo
Visited today no sign of Warthogs or the Ostrich group. Someone suggested that on some days the zebras are kept in to allow the ostrich out.I'm visiting again on Monday so It will be nice to see the new Warthogs, Ostrich and Chinese Water Deer
Ostrich ? Where did they got their new ostrich from ?Visited today again.
The Warthog brothers were very active throughout the day. One of them was mostly in the corner by the bridge. They are an absolute delight.
I also saw all 4 of the Chinese Water Deer In their new exhibit. They were quite scared at first but soon ran around the paddock.
I only saw the ostrich from in between a gap in the fence by the Giraffe house. But still managed to get a few photos of them.
Overall another great trip.
I believe the ostriches have come from Johnson’s of Old Hurst, HuntingdonOstrich ? Where did they got their new ostrich from ?
Ahh right hang on. Has London Zoo ever looked after Ostriches before ?I believe the ostriches have come from Johnson’s of Old Hurst, Huntingdon
Got an idea that in the reign of Queen Victoria the zoo had an ostrich and I think we had 1 in about 1938. As you can probably realise not in recent timesAhh right hang on. Has London Zoo ever looked after Ostriches before ?
Couldn’t remember the history of the stork and ostrich house.Ostriches were held in the stork & ostrich house for many years, at least until the 1980s?
London Zoo has had many ostriches over the years (and they've been kept in the giraffe paddock before too).Got an idea that in the reign of Queen Victoria the zoo had an ostrich and I think we had 1 in about 1938. As you can probably realise not in recent times
Nor me; I thought it was a photoshopped concept idea and assumed it would be too cold. Can't have lasted long.Oh cool, I had absolutely no idea that was even a thing!
Cool photos!
All but one corner was open today, albeit with a fair amount of 'we are moving' screened off enclosures.I spent this morning in the ZSL Library.
My intention was, after leaving the library, to have a very thorough look round the old Reptile House for (possibly) the last time.
Disappointingly I discovered that this building was closed today for "essential maintenance". Should anyone else be planning a visit to Regent's Park, specifically for a final look at the old Reptile House, best check the building is open before making a long journey
Designed by the owner and not fit for purpose. From memory Noah's Ark was the poorest Giraffe House I've ever seen. The worst point is the outdoor yard ( and adjoining paddock) is on a slope which is very unsuitable for them- unless its been changed.
No ostrich today.I'm visiting again on Monday so It will be nice to see the new Warthogs, Ostrich and Chinese Water Deer
I think it is deceptive. I have been in it and it is bigger than it looks. That is not to say it couldn't have been enlarged but I do not perceive it as inadequate.Londons is still very small despite others being smaller
Might have been the last time! There are photos on the gallery that demonstrate they certainly have been on the grass at some point, although to be fair those photos are very old. For example:
