Hello my fellow Zoochatters. Is there a definitive list of polar species found in Japan? Essentially I am looking for fish and invertebrates native to the poles that can be found in Japanese aquariums/zoos. Thank you for your assistance.

I was also looking for that, but it seems like it's pretty unknown. I'll see if i can find anything

I know there are a couple of arctic fish exhibited in Tokyo Sea Life Park. They are located next to the Deep sea area.

Coldwater species I saw in Japanese aquariums:

- Arctic shanny (Stichaeus punctatus)
- Arctic lyre crab (Hyas coarctatus)
- Fourline snakeblenny (Eumesogrammus praecisus)
- Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus)
- Polar cod (Boreogadus saida)
- Banded gunnel (Pholis fasciata)
- Lion's mane jellyfish (Cyanea capillata)
- Snow crab (Chionoecetes opilio)
- Lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus)
- Ploughfish (Gymnodraco acuticeps)
- Antarctic proboscis worm (Parborlasia corrugata)
- Black rockcod (Notothenia coriiceps)
- Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba)
- Emerald rockcod (Trematomus bernacchii)
- Bald notothen (Pagothenia borchgrevinki)
- Marbled rockcod (Notothenia rossii)
- Shorthorn sculpin (Myoxocephalus scorpius)
- Arctic staghorn sculpin (Gymnocanthus tricuspis)
- Antarctic spiny plunderfish (Harpagifer antarcticus)
- Antarctic isopod (Glyptonotus antarcticus)
- Dozens of species at Aquamarine Fukushima that were captured in the Sea of Okhotsk.
