Does any one know of hummingbirds in private or public colletions around the world ??

I've been pulling my hair out the last few years over trying to find hummers in captivity for sale.

there are hummingbirds in private collections in Europe, but not for sale. The breeding of several species goes quite fine, but the number of breeders is relatively small and they prefer to swap birds among each other then to sell birds.

These won't be for sale, but you can find a list of European zoos with different hummingbird species here: ZootierlisteHomepage

Wuppertal's the place I've seen most diversity.

Wuppertal is the only place i've seen any "diversity" (more then one species).

According to Zootierliste (and their site), "Sant Alessio con Vialone (Parco Faunistico)"have received an extraordinary shipment of hummers in 2010 and now have quite a few species on display. Wether this is correct, I haven't been able to confirm at all...

Does anyone know anything about this park or their delivery of extraordinay species?

Hummingbirds

I have heard there is a breeder in Europe who will sell you Amazilia species that he breeds [possibly only one species], that you pay a one-off fairly high price, and he replaces any losses, possibly indefinitely. The person who told me this also said that London Zoos current hummers came from that source.

when the Jungle Jewels walk-through aviary for South American birds opened at Jurong Bird Park they had quite a few species of hummingbirds displayed in the individual cages just before you entered the aviary proper (and I think one or two in the walk-through itself), but I don't think they lasted very long. I believe they even had the giant hummingbird there but I might be mistaken. Last time I went the hummingbird cages held tanagers or manakins or something along those lines.

Cali Zoo in Colombia has a great walk-through butterfly house which also contains hummingbirds native to that area. Interestingly, you don't even need to go in there to see hummingbirds hovering around - they are everywhere!

No idea about birds for sale though.

I can't open it, it is a security risk.

Try searching : "les experiences d'un eleveur de colibris" on Google and then click Images.

You will see the article image in 3rd row.

I am not sure how to upload a pdf on ZooChat thread so that i can upload the article here...

Centro Colibri in Italy breeds hummingbirds. It used to be open for public but it's been shown as close since pandemic and their Facebook website is not getting update so no idea about their current situation:

Wondering how many species they are / were breeding ?

Seems like they have / had many amazing species from Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Peru as mentioned on their website.
