Beale Park Beale Wildlife Park 2023

Very exciting baby news!

Some lucky visitors yesterday got the chance to witness the birth of our first little chulengo (or baby guanaco).

Last year we set out to try and boost numbers of a few species that although not particularly rare in the wild, are disappearing from UK Zoos, and so far this year from that list we bred Chacoan mara and now this beautiful leggy girl. I'm obsessed!:D

Such a pretty looking youngster! Great result, shows all the hard work paying off with all the lovely small ones arriving.

We've been yesterday.
After an hour deciding if we wanted to risk it with the bad weather forecast, we decided Lynx kittens were more important then rain :D

I've noticed I'm a pro at writing Disneyland reports, but I'm not good at zoo reports at all, lol, so just a few points...

We arrived around 11 and it's such a nice looking place.
I more got a feeling of, it's a nice park environment with animals.
With the lakes and colorful flowers, so nice to just walk around with or without the animals.

The Lynx mom with both kittens appeared to be up the tree, which we found out around 1. I couldn't really see anything, lol, but boyfriend has a mega zoom, so he managed to get a few pictures of one of the kittens.
A bit later one of then came down from the tree, but no one managed to be near enough for a picture before it disappeared behind the rocks. But at least we did get to see one of them!

The nocturnal house was great!
I'd never seen a Mouse Lemur, and I have to say, it's the cutest things I've ever seen!
One was very active when we were there, eating, running and hopping around on the branches.
The Cuscus, never seen before either, they were running around and chasing each other.

Went back to the Lynx a few times, but nothing to see anymore.

The Genet were both very active inside towards the end of the day.

We'll definately go back when the weather forecast shows more sun. But at least we've been now, and despite all the rain, it was still a nice day out.

Exciting new arrival announcement tomorrow on social ;)

Also had a lovely time towards the end of the day watching the lynx kittens right at the front t of the enclosure. Really not shy about people at all, but the best time to see them is defo around 4-5pm!:D (Not that I really get to check during the rest of the day)

I'm just going to ignore your posts as of now, until we manage to see them ourselves better then we did last weekend, haha!

Just Kidding :p

IMG_7422.jpegThere has been a lot of talk over the past year about what’s going into the old coati/raccoon/skunk paddock, and it was a difficult one to decide upon. But when we did the collection plan at the start of the year, we knew it had to be Arctic foxes, but we also knew we would have to wait until they were born, and we put our names on the list for potential youngsters from Wild Discovery.

Very happy to announce that the day has finally arrived with Rascal, Rebel and Rogue joining the family. Dead chuffed with these and our first canid at the park.

I know how eagle eyed ZooChatters are keen to pick holes in signage, so I’ll acknowledge now that their sign is wrong in stating they’re critically endangered. This is a misprint and we’re getting new ones done, but just deal with it for now please;)

I have always wanted to see arctic foxes! Very happy to see that my most-local collection now has some =]
I think they will go nicely with the reindeer nearby in particular!

Another beautiful chulengo born this lunchtime (sex as yet unknown). It had quite the audience as it made it's first wobbly steps. Nice for the other youngster to have a little mate to get the zoomies with!:D

Plenty of cool new stuff for visitors to see this weekend!;)

Had a fun day out at Beale today. The weather was nice all day, which makes a change this August!

The new foxes are a lot of fun to watch - playing together and running around their enclosure and it’s a good space for the three of them. Few pics attached for anyone who hasn’t seen it. Some new fencing at the top of the enclosure to prevent any escapees! And some refreshed platforms by the looks of it. The foxes are a great addition to the park and worth the trip by themselves for me.

Didn’t see much of the lynx kittens (one appeared very briefly at the end of the day) but the keeper talk was interesting and well delivered (excellent mix of info about lynx and then specifics on the lynx at Beale) and Finn the male was very showy all day.

Enjoyed the red footed tortoises who were outside and active. The porcupine was also out and about (has to be the most active porcupine I’ve seen) and that row near the start of the park (porcupine, foxes, prairie dogs, banded mongoose and tortoises) has loads going on.

The Chulengos are lovely and it was great to see them playing together. The youngest one was legging it all over the place.

The restaurant is open again, the pizzas looked very nice though I just had a good coffee. Will be handy in the winter!

So there's a bit of exciting news.....

The arctic fox cubs have been added to our carnivore encounter! These guys are beautifully chilled out and will happily come to you for a feed inside their enclosure.

AAAAAND....the cost of the encounter has been reduced too! For £70 (I think £57 if you're a annual pass holder), you will get to spend 45 mins with a keeper visiting and feeding your choice of three out of this list: lynx, tayra, binturong, genet and now ARCTIC FOX!

How cool is that for a deal? We have yet to go fully public with it on social, but the website has been updated, so this is a good time to get ahead of the game.

ah that's cool

Went to Beale Park yesterday with a friend who was down from Edinburgh for the week, and they wanted to visit some zoos they hadn't been to before, so I said I would take them to some of my favourite local zoos, so yesterday we went to Beale Park.

Unless my eyes were deceiving me, it seems as if the Lemur Exhibit is bigger than it was before? I am not sure, but I think that previously one half had birds in, and now it was much bigger, which if that's the case, is really good, and if not, my eyes are playing tricks on me.

The Porcupine has moved as well since I last visited, down to where the Meerkats were, by the Arctic Foxes, with the Meerkats now next to the new indoor Human Nature setup which was the first time I had seen that. Enjoyed the Harvest mouse setup, and the Brown Rat exhibit reminded me of Woodside's which I have always liked.

Could only see two Cus-Cus in the Nocturnal house, so assume baby has moved on, or was just very good at hiding!

The pair of baby Guanaco's were very sweet, and were playing with each other and looking very fluffy as they grow!

Baby Mara from earlier in the year, is now pretty much the size of mum.

Lynx kittens were up the tree, so didn't see much of them, but one ventured down at feed time.

We done a couple of experiences and got to meet the Arctic Foxes, who were very cool and names were very well suited! Rascal was a rascal trying to nip the keeper and my friend, whilst Rogue was like a bull in a China shop when it came to feeding! One of them, was also starting to go into it's white winter coat.

Also fed Finn, the Lynx and he was very chilled for a Lynx and was nice to see him up close.

Was amazed at how big Rosie, the Binturong had got, she had nearly doubled in size since I last saw her.

All in all, an enjoyable day. Was a shame, we weren't able to do the other experience we booked on the website on the morning of the day, as my friend from Edinburgh is only down for a week and we've lots more planned, but it'll keep for another day. These things happen.

There used to be two lemur groups, but as one has moved off to Paulton's Park, the dividing mesh has been removed so that it's one big enclosure now.:D

Glad someone enjoyed it....we had a trip advisor that said the rat exhibit was "distasteful and unpleasant"!:D:confused::D I think maybe they didn't like the mirror being held up to the wastefulness of the human race!

Our original pair are pretty ancient and are now living in blissful retirement off-show. The pair in Twilight Zone are the baby and a new male.

I think what happened was that two of the experiences you wanted happen at the same time, and we can really only fit in a certain number within the day cos we don't have tons of staff. Sorry.
