They have now released a statement that there are indeed two Bukhara Urial lambs? (twins) were born. But their mother was lost shortly after the birth.

Korkeasaari has a strict policy of not bottlefeed their animals if not absolutely necessary, to prevent them becoming too tame.

So they had to make a special arrangements for the little ones: they are living with four goats. The actions were recommended and arranged with the cordinator of the breed.

They won't be visible to the visitors at the moment.

Their male urial does not now have a mate and he lives in a herd of male markhors.

Apparently the recently arrived Brazilian rainbow boa has escaped its enclosure in Amazonia. The keepers suspect that it escaped through the pipes in its pool. So far it has not yet been found.

They are very cute! I haven't seen the baby yet, but the parents are fun to watch.
 
I visited the park today after a while. Two snowy owls were born in June and I was able to see them today. First time I see chicks from this species.

The two tiger cubs were feeding on a moose and it was quite impressive seeing them with a moose head in their mouths.

Also, the Hämärätalo is finally open after the renovation and changes are quite noticeable:

-The large terrarium at the entrance that had been empty for at least four years has pancake tortoises now. I couldn't find any, so I don't know how many tortoises they have, but the terrarium is quite big and nice.

-Next there's another terrarium with the corn snake (smaller than the tortoise's terrarium, but bigger than the former box where the snake lived).

-The former snake and harvest mouse small terrariums on the opposite wall are covered, so I guess they are empty now.

-The major change is the semi-indoor area of the fennec fox, which now has a lot of plants and chipwood flooring instead of sand. To me it looks more tropical themed now. I don't know if maybe they plan to use this area for another animal.

-The outdoor area for the fennec fox remains unchanged and I saw one fennec fox. According to the web, there should be 3 foxes.
 
Who can tell me how to get to this zoo, planning a route by car seems to have you stop at the island north of the island the zoo is actually on? Can you get to the zoo by car at all? What are the distances you have to walk and is it possible for a person walking with the aid of a walker?
 
The closest parking spots are indeed located at the island north of the zoo, since there are no actual parking spots on the zoo island. However the walk from the parking lot to the main gate is only around 800 meters. I believe the terrain is also quite easy, so I think it would be no problem for someone with a walker to traverse.

This is a permanent structure, that will make it possible to use the conjoining enclosure for tigers also.
 
Korkeasaari just announced that the round-eared elephant shrews have had twins!

Their earlier pup (a male) has already been set into his own 'man cave' and can also be seen in Africasia-house.

Parents and set of twins are also there. Near the beginning of the 'desert path'.
 
I visited today and saw for the first time the three lionesses together in the same enclosure.

Also the tiger bridge seems to be finished, although it wasn't open.

The tiger bridge was just opened yesterday! The tigers now have access to yard F, which until recently was a part of the Asiatic lion enclosure. Both cubs and their mother Sibiri have already tried out the new bridge.

I visited today and noticed that the Père David's deer have left the zoo. The enclosure has a sign saying it's empty and the website doesn't list the species anymore. I'm not sure if it's due to the construction of the bridge or if a new animal will replace them.

There's a new prefab building placed inside the peccary enclosure which looks very odd. I'm not sure what it is for, but it looks temporary. However, on the markhor enclosure, a new shelter is being built and this one seems to be a permanent building integrated in the rocky mountain.

This was my last visit to the zoo since I'm moving out very soon :(. I have really enjoyed all my visits to the park during these years and I think Korkeasaari is a very good zoo. I hope I can come back someday during holidays, but meanwhile I look forward to reading on the forum future news about this beautiful park.
