Marwell Wildlife Roof Of The World & Surrounding at Marwell what was it like?

Does anyone have any photos of this area as it was in the past or what species were kept and where?

I believe it was not much different than it was today. More so that some species' enclosures were of different animals [i.e. coatis as opposed to red panda; sun conure as opposed to swift parrot...] the wallaby area [Aussie Bushwalk] was smaller than it is now, and its nearby aviary, which held kookaburra, held various species over the years - for sometime it had hornbills, but in most recent times it had wonga pigeons and blue-faced honeyeaters - the latter of which remains at Marwell, but the former since moved on.
It was only called 'Fur Feathers and Scales' as of 2013 when the erstwhile-coati enclosure was built - prior to that it was 'Encounter Village', where it had a black rat enclosure as well as a tamarin walkthrough for a few years. Itself an area redeveloped and opened in 2007 - before that further it was a petting farm with domestic animals. The farmyard would close sometime shortly before Knowles' retirement in 2006.

Before the walkthrough aviary and the red panda (formerly coati) enclosure was built that area was a paddock. I can't remember what was kept there though. Also, as dillotest pointed out, what was left of that paddock afterwards was added onto the wallaby walkthrough.

I believe the paddock was for Exmoor Pony when the area was still a farmyard. The pony left in 2006 to HorseWorld in Bristol.

The Wallaby walkthrough was at one time home to a large group of around twenty Ankole Cattle.

I believe in the years following Knowles' divorce from Marwell, the Ankole, a group which was now smaller and entirely female, would be moved to a different paddock - which has held various hoofstock over the year and today holds Mountain Zebra. The Ankole left in 2011, iirc.
Would I be right in saying this?

I do not believe they were ever moved from that area.

I seem to remember Camels around 2006,where the walkthrough aviary is now and probably part of the new coati/red panda area

Camels were housed at the bottom end of Fur Feather etc in the Barn area where the reptiles are now, they were used for childrens rides, I have no memory of them at the top end coati red panda.

It may have been temporary, but I'm sure there were camels with a barn at the top of the hill ( the barn is possibly part of the indoor bird accomodation in the walkthrough as that is roughly where it was

There is a photo of the camel winter yard posted in 2010, on page 119 of the Marwell media . I think this could well be the one I remember at the top of the hill where the bird walkthrough is now

Here is a map that was present on Marwell's website up until 07, but the lack of jaguars and presence of Malayan Tapir seems to date it to 05, or late 04 at latest.
And indeed okapis seems right in that the Ankole were not where the Mountain Zebra are now [back then there were Roan Antelope], but in an enclosure adjacent it.

But this picture seems to show the cattle in what would be the mountain zebra enclosure today...

And there's also this map from late 08 which shows the Ankole in this area.

When the 'reptile house' was first bult on the site of the farmyard, I think it was known as Cold Blooded Corner.

But that (incorrect as it turns out) comment was made by me - and okapis has already corrected me in this very thread - i.e. it was not the Persian Leopard that was kept on the South Road, but the Amur Leopards when they first arrived.

So the Persian Leopard was never kept there? From my infernal of those comments, there were both species at the Zoo at the time, and at one point the last Persian Leopard was in that enclosure on the South Road? This is consistent with my memory, as I remember a sign on that enclosure saying the Persian Leopard had recently passed away. I am happy to defer to superior knowledge, though!

I don't think that the architecture of the area has changed much since farmyard days. The buildings were all there in the past, methinks.

If it is true that the Persian leopards were never kept on that south road, that would mean the Amur leopards were kept there for three years (according to zootierliste)

I'm not sure. I think the 'reptile house' was built subsequent to the farmyard, at the same time the walkthrough tamarin enclosure was constructed. But I never went in there when it was a farmyard, so you could be right. Might have just been a re-purposing. Someone will know.....
