Berlin Tierpark Tierpark Berlin news 2023

Thank you for the helpful replies. I walked all round the Alfred brehm house, and was very impressed,, but missed those species.

I also did not find the section with the birds of prey and raptors, I will have to go back!

If I recall correctly, I saw them outside by the entrance of the ABH which faced towards the domestics. There may or may not be a large statue around there.

The current maps are difficult to interpret and omit so many details.

Ratel and civet can be found in a row of cages between Alfred Brehm house and reindeer.

Harpy eagle in raptor section around a row of cages with large owls.

Great news! But where are they kept in the park? Or
for now behind the scènes untill their new enclosure is ready? I also saw at zootierliste that they have red river hogs and I can’t remember where they keep these as well. And just the be sure about all suids in the park; the Visayan warty pigs share an exhibit with water Buffalo, right? :)

Last year, red river hogs were with African forest buffalo and babirusas with kerabau.

I'm going to the Tierpark during september and I wanted to know if the Barred eagle-owl was still there. Because I heard he was dead but he is still notified on Zootierliste...

Although I’m sorry I don’t know the answer to your question, I have to say your question did make me smile. Questions like this are only on Zoochat ;)

Where did you hear that?

On Facebook there are some pictures of the owl dating from April and May. And I also remember a short entry and picture of it in some forum or Facebook group which - apparently - I cannot find any more. So unfortunately, I cannot positively confirm it's still alive. But I also didn't learn anything about it's death. Normally, I would assume this news to get around if it happened.

It was still alive in July, when I visited.

I wouldn't be surprised if it has indeed died - it is, after all, the oldest owl in Europe - but I definitely hope it is still around so that @Kaelio can have the good fortune to see the species without having to travel all the way to southeast Asia!

I saw him three weeks ago, but he moved from ABH to the birds-of-prey area.

This is correct. It got moved and replaced (now there are parrots in the small aviary). And, now that I think of it, this could also be the reason why someone thought it may have died.

In the Tierpark right now and was wondering where in the zoo the Bawean deer are? I’ve looked up and down the deer area and can’t seem to find them but maybe I’ve missed something?

Edit: And any herps that aren’t in the Alfred Brehm Haus?
