Kit at the Pittsburgh Zoo did not survive an emergency medical procedure performed last.

"6-year-old male African lion, did not survive an emergency surgery.

Kit was showing signs of illness, and an X-ray showed the lion had 'material blocking his digestive system,' according to a zoo statement.

The animal care team performed an emergency procedure on Friday night to remove the block, but the lion did not survive. Kit was the zoo's only male lion."

The Lee Richardson Zoo’s 8 year old lioness Lulu, was transferred to the San Francisco Zoo in early July. She is going to be Jasiri’s companion.

I’m pretty sure she’s still going through her quarantine period, reason for why the San Francisco Zoo has not yet announced her arrival.

I’ve been trying to create a list of Izu’s bloodline and I’m stuck trying to find some of his offspring. Does anyone know what happened to Laini who transferred to the Jacksonville Zoo? The last post about her was in 2013.

He had Abena (2006), Bakari (2006), Zawadi Mungu (2007), Ekundu (2007), Tamu (2007), Laini (2007), Kenya (2013), Dixie (2013), Ernest (2014), Miss Ellen (2014), Evelyn (2014), and Marion (2014) with Oshana and then Kamau (2006), Zenda (2006), Mandisa (2006), Ingozi (2007), Sarabi (2007), and Kaya (2007) with Mina.

As I said earlier, Ekundu was Izu and Oshana's son and was Laini, Tamu, and Zawadi Mungu's littermate. Nyack was M'bari and Etosha's only offspring that survived to adulthood, they had a couple other cubs that died very young.

Isis was born at Fort Worth Zoo. I don’t recall who her parents were.

Adia was born on June 6th, 2007 at Topeka Zoo to parents, Avus and Asante.

Razi who was at Pittsburgh Zoo?

Razi was born on May 2nd, 2009 at Virginia Zoo to Mramba and Zola. He was Dakari (DAK) and Zarina (Blank Park)'s littermate.

Mr. Big who was at Omaha Zoo?

Mr. Big was born on August 15th, 1999 at Oklahoma City Zoo to parents, Tsavo and Nemesis.

Jasira who was at Roosevelt Park Zoo?

Jasira was born October 5th, 2006 at Pueblo Zoo to Taz Jahari and Ulana.

Adia who was at Woodland Park Zoo?

Adia was born September 22nd, 2009 at Columbus to Tomo and Asali. She was Mekita (NC)'s littermate.

Zola was born July 17th, 2004 at North Carolina to parents, Reilly and Sala.

Shombay was born July 24th, 2008 at Fort Worth Zoo to parents, Tsavo and Precious. He was Mattie and Uzima (Houston)'s littermate.

Isis was born at Fort Worth Zoo. I don’t recall who her parents were.

Her parents were also Tsavo and Precious, and she was Shani (Naples), Cleo (Sacramento), and Arthur (Peoria)'s littermate.

Riverside Discovery Center to welcome 2 new lions

Appears that Omaha is planning to transfer 2 lions to Riverside Discovery Center (also in Nebraska). I assume that would be the 2 males in Pride 1. Perhaps Omaha is looking to establish a breeding pride. They have not had lion cubs in the new exhibit to date.

I'm in the works of creating a book of all my lion photography at Riverbanks - I've followed Zuri, the male lion for anyone who doesn't know, for quite some time -- approximately, 7 years in fact. I was hoping if anyone could help me find/track down the names of some siblings of the lion:

• Lion that was born on 11/1/92 in S Africa - transferred to Atlanta on 1/31/94, Sedgwick Zoo 6/12/98, and later transferred to Lee Richardson Zoo 2/27/04
• Lion born on 1/27/95 in S Africa, transferred to Bakubung, Oklahoma Zoo on 3/28/97, then transferred to Colorado Springs 6/19/2000
• Two lions born on 8/15/99 in Oklahoma Zoo to Nemesis/Majola - one male went to Memphis Zoo on 2/19/02 then later is at the Audubon since 11/19/08 -- the other went to Omaha in 12/06/01
• Lion born on 12/26/98 in Oklahoma to Nemesis/Majola - transferred to Tulsa on 1/7/04
