Officially announced today:

1. Blondinette "Netty", 7-year-old female two toed sloth from the Montreal Biodome, who will be joining the Gold Lion Tamarins on exhibit
2. Tootsie, a 6-year-old Capybara from Fresno Chaffee Zoo in California. She is currently being introduced to the male Capybara Diego

Exciting to get some fresh faces in the America's Section for sure!

It'll be fun to have a young sloth again, no offense to Sally but she's over 30 and rarely leaves her nest box.

Looks like orang Jingga will be headed down to Fresno Chaffee Zoo sometime soon! She was initially supposed to head to Louisville but they're apparently unable to import her at the time being. Jingga is slated to breed with Fresno's adult male Busar who currently lives with his 3 offspring.

While I'm really excited for Jingga to finally get the chance to breed and have her own offspring, I'm definitely a bit disappointed she didn't end up remaining at Toronto to breed. Since she was a 3rd gen Toronto born orang, it would've been really nice to have her produce a 4th gen infant at Toronto! But oh well.

Will Jingga return to the Toronto zoo after?

@Zoo adventures Unlikely because she has basically no breeding future here. Budi is her half-brother through Molek so she can't breed with him, and if Wali eventually becomes our breeding male (unlikely but not impossible) she wouldn't be able to breed with him either since he's her half-nephew through Budi.

Who is Molek. Did he changed zoo. Do you know if there will be new orang-outans coming to the zoo. Also will there be new gorillas entering the troop.

Molek is Budi, Jingga, and Kembali's father and he passed away in 2010. The zoo will not be receiving any new gorillas or orangs for the time being, unless plans have changed very recently.

Molek is the former breeding male orangutang at the zoo, he is the father of Jingga, Kembali and Budi, and I believe has passed. The current plan is to ship Jingo out although uncertain when, unlikely any new orangutans to be brought in.

As for the Gorilla troop as far as I know the plan is for Johari to move to another facility at some point. No new Gorillas planned to come, although once Charles passes things will certainly change.

Take a look at the threat Toronto Zoo family trees by @TZFan, It is an incredible compilation of the zoo history and animals.

So does that mean that there would not be any birth in these species for years?

Thank you for the information. It is sad that Johari will leave the zoo.

It's unlikely that there will be any gorilla births till Charles passes away and a new silverback is brought in. However, orangs Budi and Ramai do have a breeding recommendation so they could have an infant sometime in the future.
Will other male gorilla take his place or there will be a new male from other zoo?

Yes when Charles does pass a new silverback will be brought in to replace him. One of the 4 bachelor males at Granby is the most likely choice since they are already in Canada. Jawara would be the top contender as he is the most valuable of the 4. His half brother Zwalani would be second choice as long as Johari has left, she is his half aunt and just because the SSP has suggested a transfer Toronto owns her and has the right to say no thanks. Louis and Kuchimba are far less likely because they from way overrepresented lines.

@hyena142 That is very true, So much is recommendations and hearsay and such. I would never count on an animal coming or going until they have actually left or arrived.

Ohhh the two brothers, I saw them in Zoo Granby

Really? I just attended the Board meeting and I could have sworn they said end of October or beginning of November for the rhino baby.

On today's World Rhino Day insta post they said she's due any day now. Could be she's ahead of schedule or they're just wrong
