Hello! Not my first post but an introduction haha.

I go by Filovirus on here. I'm currently a pre-veterinary student hoping to earn my DVM/MPH sometime in the next... decade, I guess? lol. Universe willing I'll get accepted this cycle.

My primary interests in the animal world are severe zoonoses, particularly filoviruses, prions, anthrax, and smallpox. My life will be complete when I work in a BSL-4 space. I also like zoos, though! My home zoo is the Minnesota Zoo (Como is also local but MN Zoo has my heart). I'm an off-and-on Planet Zoo fan.

Outside of animals, I really enjoy Dungeons and Dragons and miniature painting. I've got 2 cats, a basset hound, and a green cheek conure. Happy to be poking around here :)
 
Welcome! I was really into BSL-4 viruses for a while, especially smallpox; its eradication is a fascinating story and something that would be difficult to replicate at any other point in time, past or future.

Couldn't agree more! I'm primarily interested in it from a bioterror threat perspective. There are only two official stores of the virus... but heavy emphasis on official. If I could ask one question and get the answer from some omniscient being, I'd first ask why my back hurts all the dang time. Then I'd ask how many countries ACTUALLY have smallpox stores.

LOL. It is rather terrifying to think that there's likely others somewhere, because heaven forbid we really eradicate it. Something like that is much easier to hide than a nuke and just as deadly.
