Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Longleat Safari Park News 2023

Interesting watching the YouTube about the wolves, so they are starting a new pack with Meg and Terry and just going to leave the other wolves in the drive through until I presume they die out?
Sounds like the best way forward, it's a real shame that the other pack started so well and then everything went south. Perhaps after a successful litter they'll swap places and eventually the other wolves get transferred elsewhere (cough Whipsnade please cough), or as you say die out.
How will this work when they need to bring the wolves in do they have two houses to hold two packs of wolves?.
There's at least 2, originally they were used to seperate the timber wolves when needed and then more recently one was used for the ill-fated European pack while the 3 old timbers were kept in the other until they all died out. I vaguely remember there being another but I couldn't confirm that.

Todays episode (I confess I skipped to the wolf bits on Iplayer) summarises the Meg, lady and May situation with Meg selected to pair with the new male. They split the females and Meg off on her own.

The episode then confirmed May and Lady are the new wolves at CWP and the ones swapped for the male. So it was left ear wolf from the earlier clips who arrived at CWP which is good to know.

And nice to see Terry in his new home after enjoying watching him at CWP. He is a lovely wolf. He’s got a distinctive mark a little way under his left eye if people are looking out for him. They showed the intro too which was interesting.

Although they blurred the CWP logos on shirts and the van for some reason the Longleat keeper stated it was Cotswold and it was nice to see the CWP team and how the teams worked together.

I appreciate people disagree with the Aspinall's plans, but is this not a bit of a low blow, which isn't needed. The Aspinall Elephants, are not surplus, or are they Elephants in need of rescue. They are well looked after, and given they will probably end up at a privately owned fenced reserve in Kenya, with no predators, it's highly unlikely they are being set up for inevitable fate as you put it.
...and will there be any bull elephants for breeding in this new reserve?
Or perhaps the Aspinall elephants will be doomed to have their bloodline dry out
Though if it is there are many elephants left in Europe to rescue... I almost hope that a social media frenzy wouldn't ensue... I feel I've seen enough 'rescue the animal' type campaigns on social media to know that it's only such an effective method...

I have a feeling the lioness killed was beryl because of her behaviour shown on animal park in the summer.

This is a very bad start for longleat this year

So, confirming news that was posted here earlier in the year, the incident involving the lions concerned Harry and Sweet Pea as per today’s episode of Animal Park.

Once again, a very interesting piece as it provides an insight into pride dynamics, with particular emphasis on the lioness Malaika

Whilst what happened was horrible, I am pleased that it was acknowledged on Animal Park. I don't like seeing life or death situations milked for drama like a soap opera, but its important to state that bad things happen sometimes and be open about it.

I'm quite sad its the last episode of the series tomorrow, as this latest series has been excellent!

I spoke to a keeper about the blurring recently as I noticed 'longleat' was blurred on the shirts when they were in Australia. It's to do with the BBC and because Longleat is a brand as is CWP theyre not allowed to advertise it. Which to me is ridiculous as everyone knows Animal park is filmed at Longleat.

Although it was incredibly sad what happened to Sweet Pea, I love that the lions themselves punished Harry for his actions. It's just another little glimpse into their world and how incredible animals really are.

I haven't yet watched the episode(will catch up today) but I'm glad they've acknowledged Sweet Pea's death. It made main news headlines back in January so everyone would have heard about it. Just like Django(European wolf) his death was covered a couple of days ago.
Best series so far imo

They also confirmed couple of days ago that Jassera(oldest lioness (18yrs) in other pride) is also still alive

Well guys. Animal Park this summer has been an amazing success. Don't know what date just yet but I'll be returning to Longleat very soon

I've loved the latest series of Animal Park and it was quite emotional seeing Rusty the tiger leave for his new home at Blackpool Zoo in the last episode. I have a question: is Rusty's sister still at Longleat? If she left, I'd be interested to know where she went to.

Here is the latest News from Longleat:

The Binturongs are expecting, baby due any day now.

The red panda have reproduced.
.
The sloths have had a baby.

This came from a Longleat House employee

I'd love the sloth baby to be true! When we went last week though the keepers were in and out of the sloth room. Parents were holding their kids right up to see the sloths (kids had their hands on the wooden ledge!) And the keepers either weren't there to see it or just told them not to do it. I feel like they'd be more vigilant ect if there was a baby.

It'll probably be discussed AFTER Anne passes. She's sixty-nine, so yes she is quite elderly. They'll probably wait a year or two before getting more elephants once she dies.
The park did house a herd of african elephants previously before moving to another collection.
I could see the area becoming a retirement home for elderly elephants from Europe to live peacefully with elephants their own age. However, would Anne's enclosure need an extension if it was to host a herd or could it be kept as it is?

They’ve always blurred names due to advertising but the funniest thing this series is that they blurred the black tape that had already been placed over ‘Longleat’ on the shirts. Obviously an automatic blur is used but made me chuckle every time!

Unsure if this is already posted

A pair of rare red panda cubs have been born here at Longleat this summer.

Red pandas are endangered, with only 2,500 thought to remain in the wild, and face the threat of extinction in the near future due to deforestation and habitat loss, as well as poaching and the illegal pet trade.

Mum and dad, Emma and Lionel, play an essential role in a global breeding programme to help bolster the population of red pandas, and the hope is that their twin boys will one day move onto other collections and have families of their own.

For now, they spend most of their days snoozing in the nest boxes here at Longleat, with the family being provided with a regular supply of fresh bamboo leaves from our very own plantation.

Mentioned above but it's good to get confirmation - great news for the Park following the winter.

Anyone heard anything about the baby sloth or binturong? I'm visiting this Sunday so I'll keep an eye out but wondering if anyone's managed to see either.

@cerperal spotting the Binturongs may be a bit harder as they are now just usually sitting in a new nest box.
Ah so the standard binturong experience?

Seriously, I've visited Longleat well over 10 times since they gained them, and the only time I've seen one active is when they were originally held in those awful cages.

Anyway sounds like it could be promising for a young one then. I don't mind animals hiding in their housing, all part of the experience haha

I was there last week, saw both Sloths, well saw one in plain sight, the other curled up on a shelf. Couldn't see any baby though, and it surprises me that the area isn't manned, given the Sloths are effectively free roaming.
