This is just a bit of fun to judge the general consensus on the best enclosure for Guenons in the UK. I have added a few photos from the gallery to make it easier for members to compare the different exhibits. If anyone wants to make an argument for a particular enclosure, please feel free to do so. Also, I would encourage people to list the enclosures in order of what they think is best.

If you want to vote for Howletts, Blackpool (either), Fife, Five Sisters (either), Porfell, London, Port Lympne (Diana), Owl & Monkey Haven (either), Hamerton, Isle of Wight, Colchester, Twycross (L'Hoest's), Folly Farm or Wingham then please vote for the "Other" option in the poll. (Specify who you are voting for)

Monkey World no longer have a mixed exhibit for red bellied and patas. The elderly patas monkey Mica lived with ring tailed lemur George in that enclosure but both passed in recent years and the two paths monkeys rescued from Borth live next to the stump tailed macaques at the far end of the park.

Its a pretty unfair comparison, but 'African Forest' at Woburn Safari Park is, in my opinion, the best of the lot by far. A ridiculous amount of space (several times larger than what is depicted in the photo), countless mature trees, ample space to get away from the cars with raised shelters and a sizable, but sadly offshow, indoor area and excellent vegetation, with a lot of long grass. The type of tree isn't exactly going to convince you that you're in West Africa, but it still offers an incredible experience for both the visitors and the guenons, and is probably one of the most picturesque primate enclosures in the country. The mix with Eastern Bongos is also very nice.

Of the ones that I have seen, only Paignton comes close, but even then, I would consider Woburn far superior. Of the ones that I haven't seen Port Lympne looks really nice, but judging from photos there isn't really much of a comparison here either. It wouldn't come close to any of those mentioned above, but I did rather like Dartmoor's enclosure, so it is a shame which they are no longer held.

Fife’s enclosure for their De Brazza family. This is temporary as a much bigger new enclosure is in the pipeline.

Twycross Zoos L’hoest monkeys don’t live there anymore as that houses Lope the gorilla. They live in the same type of enclosure as the Diana Monkeys.

TZ has two groups of De Brazza’s. The main group is the outdoor enclosure you posted while the other group are in a meshed top enclosure with the indoor image you posted.

The indoor area for the De Brazza’s isn’t the best with the main group as it’s just a small box.

The Open topped De Brazza enclosure has thick foliage too.

The Diana Monkeys inside have 2 main play rooms and a few side bedrooms. This is now closed off for visitors but I was lucky enough to be able to go into during an experience.

I’ve uploaded a image of the other De Brazza Groups enclosure at TZ

Its worth noting that the Monkey World enclosure is now netted over the top.

As already noted, the Colchester group has moved. The enclosure has been renovated slightly for the L'Hoest's.

Score update. The huge Port Lympne exhibit is far ahead. It looks like there might be a win for the exhibit again (won for Colobus also.)

It fascinates me that Woburn isn’t running away with this poll. Either I am missing some tremendous strength of Port Lympne (having never seen it in person, this is very possible), or people are perhaps biased against drive through enclosures, as from what I can tell it is easily the best enclosure here…

Woburn no longer hold Patas.

Poll closed. Congratulations to Port Lympne for having the Best UK Guenon enclosure. Once again, this exhibit shows its excellence by winning another poll because of its huge trees the primates have access to. A mention to Edinburgh who came in second with a former sea eagle aviary for the L'Hoest's.

Port Lympne: 41.2%
Edinburgh: 23.5%
Paignton: 11.8%
Monkey World: 8.8%
YWP: 8.8%
Twycross (DB): 2.9%
Twycross (Diana): 2.9%
