On October 30th, the zoo announced their names, Jalen, Patrick, and Tua.

On December 14th, the zoo announced they renamed the colobus monkey Fig.*

*The post makes note that only 1 colobus was born this year, and that was already named Juniper. I'm guessing that it had a name change?
 
I guess pretty soon the new Amazon River exhibit may open (see news from last year). Jaguars, giant anteaters, capybara, sloths, a petting yard for goats and overhead crossing for domestic goats and jaguars. Plus the area with anteaters, sloths et cetera will have birds and is a walk-through exhibit!!!!

Any regular Texan visitors here with an update as to completed this spring or summer break?
(as well as design plan and that kind of information)
 
On July 9th, the zoo announced that a grey crowned crane hatched which is now on exhibit.

On July 10th, it was reported that the zoo plans on completing the new Amazon complex sometime in September, with the area opening before the end of 2024. It was also reported that the area will have a new exhibit for giant otters and a new event center.

This year the Caldwell Zoo has "produced" 70 young Texas Horned Lizards, that are ready to reintroduce in the wild.
WAZA on Instagram: "@caldwellzoo welcomed Texas Horned Lizards! The wild populations of the species declined in recent years for a variety of reasons. The lizards are often caught for the pet trade while the loss of wild habitat and the expansion of fire ants has also taken a toll on the species. The Zoo has special habitats built for mating pairs at their Texas Horned Lizard Conservation Center. Once eggs are laid, they are moved to an incubator. This gives each egg perfect conditions to maximise the number of healthy hatchlings. Once the lizards hatch, they will be transfered to climate controlled habitats and eventually driven to protected land near Mason Mountain, Texas. There, each lizard is given a special radio tag and released into the wild. This year, the Zoo will have over seventy hatchlings to reintroduce into the wild."

57 of these lizards have just been reintroduced in the wild.

This initiative is part of Caldwell Zoo's broader breeding programme aimed at restoring these endangered lizards to their natural habitat. The Texas horned lizard has faced significant population decline due to habitat loss, invasive fire ants, and illegal pet collection."
 
 
On September 19th, it was reported that the zoo cared for and released 20 Attwater's prairie chickens into the wild.

On September 13th, it was reported that 5 white-faced whistling ducks hatched behind the scenes.

On September 18th, the zoo announced that a mantled guereza was born which is on exhibit.

On September 27th, the zoo announced that 4 Chilean flamingos named Augusta, King, Savannah, and Talulah hatched between August 6th and August 24th.

On October 25th, it was announced that the zoo will transfer a (1.0) ocelot to the Salisbury Zoo in Maryland later in autumn.

Does the Caldwell Zoo have the capacity to house and fences strong enough to withstand a mature bull? I know they already have a couple young bulls with a geriatric cow, and it is a relatively state of the art facility for bachelors since they overhauled it over some years ago.
