Too many to name. I'm aware that it has sort of become a dumping ground for most of the 'additional' large fish in the collection. Of course there are the ubiquitous ones like redtail cats, pacus / tambaqui, fei feng, kong ming, etc.

I remember a few medium motoro rays in the past too, but those have most likely been transferred to either the River Safari / Fragile Forest.

Always found it humorous that the manatees were introduced there, considering it was historically an ornamental koi pond during the 2000s.

Friends and I joked that river dolphins or possibly even an Orca calf would replace them once they were gone.

What is a Kong Ming? I only know that 孔明 is zhuge liang's styled name.

It's the pond outside where the event hall is, which is across from the tram stop where the Orang-utans, Sea Lions and restaurant is.

It's the local term (as well as in Malaysia) for Paroon Shark (Pangasius sanitwongsei). In case any non-Asians are wondering, Fei Feng is the local name for Red-tail Prochilodus, though to this date I have absolutely no idea what it means or how a South American characin has earned a Chinese nickname. Then again everything in the region is given a Chinese nickname to make them more appealing to local hobbyists.
 
Zootierliste lists these birds as part of the Zoo's collection. Some of them live in Bird Paradise but aren't they held at the zoo interim before Bird Paradise opened like the maned duck, radjah shelduck and freckled duck?

Zootierliste is not entirely accurate, at least for the Mandai parks.
 
I've been hearing a lot lately of how Singapore Zoo is overrated and is not good as people think. Anyone has an idea of why people are saying this?

Because the Zoo itself represents just one of four parts (soon to be five parts) that make up a whole. Without viewing it as a single collection together with River Wonders, Night Safari and Bird Paradise, Singapore Zoo by itself is indeed quite average. It was a deliberate decision to split the collection into separate parks to cater to different groups of visitors with varying interests, budgets and available time.
 
Personally, I'm still quite fond of the Zoo, despite the reductions in its species (especially hoofstock) in the last few decades. It still harbours a very large and continuously-breeding troop of proboscis monkeys, a beautiful Siamang habitat and Batagur trivittata, which are some of the standout draws.

Not to mention the lovely Sri Lankan matriarch, Komali and the Fragile Forest.
 
updates from today's trip:

1. almost all of Reptopia is cordoned off. the only exhibits i saw that were not affected were the hatchery and desert sections

2. the Babirusa and Southern Cassowary exhibit are empty

3. a third Gharial joined the existing pair in Sungei Buaya

4 Lesser Bamboo Rat and Fancy Rat exhibits are closed for upgrading in Kidzworld

do you know why Reptopia was mostly closed?
 
does anyone know what subspecies of lion are in the park and if the Ankole-watusi are still around?
