Singapore Night Safari Singapore Night Safari News

@BucerosKeeper mentioned to me that there were reportedly plans in the past to acquire Eastern long-beaked echidna (Zaglossus bartoni) for Night Safari's Oceania zone.

Not sure if such plans were concretely-established, but what a cool species to maintain in Mandai's portfolio, considering its success with other insectivores like pangolins and tamandua.

Other Papuans I'd love to see in the collection one day include spotted cuscus (Spilocuscus), trioks (Dactylopsila) and one of the Dorcopsis wallabies.

Seems like the Himalayan Tahr have been phased out. Not sure what will happen to the exhibit.
Sad to see another ungulate phased out but hope they bring in gorals or serows or another caprid

The Australian section is much better now with the Tasmanian devils and kiwi, and there's also a quoll statue so they probably planned to acquire them at some point of time

Small updates from a visit tonight

  • marsh birds exhibit at fishing cat trail was blocked out
  • Gambian pouched rats inhabit the Luzon cloud rat exhibit
  • There's two unsigned owl species and raccoon dogs in the 2 enclosures in the queue for the amphitheatre
  • Asian elephant cow exhibit also seems to be renovating
Where is Alika the aardvark, is she safe, is she alright?
  • There's a quoll statue alongside the Tasmanian devil and wallaby statues by a bench. Does this hint at anything?
When I went on 24 September, only saw one owl. A malay fish owl, apparently.

Both amphitheatre exhibits are rotational exhibits that can house a number of animals under the show department's care. The exhibit with the owl has also been used to display their Burmese Pythons for example.

When did they close their Hippo enclosure? It was there a month ago when I visited. By Red river hog, do you mean the one from east lodge trail or the one from the tram?

The Hippos and Red River Hogs are still there. The Bearded Pig and first Dhole exhibits are closed for upgrading. The Dholes won't return and the second Dhole exhibit will also eventually close as they are supposed to move to Rainforest Wild Asia.

Also the elderly female Large Bamboo Rat that was at the old Rainforest Kidzworld is now housed with the Sunda Slow Loris at the Leopard Trail.
